JANET CHRISTINE BAKE (nee BROWN) January 30, 1952 - August 16, 2018 The world has lost a wonderful, kind, caring and loving individual. We are saddened to inform of the passing of Janet Christine Bake, after a long battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband Doug; her daughter Erin (Jeff); grandchildren, Callie and Brooke; and son Kyle (Audra); brother Bill (Debby); sister-in-law Barb; mother-in-law Betty, as well as many nieces and nephews. Janet's life revolved around her family. She was employed for many years with Manitoba Hydro. In her retirement, Janet enjoyed trips to Maui and Mexico with Erin and her family, and to other tropical destinations with Barb and Betty. She also enjoyed her visits to Boston, where she and Doug spent time with Kyle, Audra and their dogs. She spent many wonderful times with her childhood friend Diane, who was a great comfort to her. She loved going for long walks around the neighbourhood with her good friend Yolande. Janet especially enjoyed her time at the cabin at Brereton Lake, a place she loved so much. She could often be seen spending the day on the dock, only going up to the cottage for supper. When at the lake, she spent hours playing with Callie and Brooke in the water, and playing all sorts of games with them back at the cottage. She also loved cheering them on at their hockey and soccer games. These two wonderful girls were her pride and joy. She often went on hikes at the lake with Doug, Bill and Debby. We would like to thank the staff at CancerCare Manitoba, as well as the staff at Riverview Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, for their kind and caring attention to Janet during her illness. According to Janet's wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a celebration of Janet's life at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons Street, on Friday, August 24 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Janet has asked for donations to be made to cancer research or CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.

We were so very sad to hear of Janet's death. I'm sorry to say we had not even known she was ill - just that you were not at the cottage as much recently. We will miss seeing Janet on the beach with the grandkids. I hadn't realized how much she looked like her Mother ( who I still think of often and tell bear stories about) We are hoping your many memories will help you find some peace & comfort as time passes - Our thought are with you all at this tough time With much sympathy Susan & Ed Zwingerman - Posted by: Susan & Ed Zwingerman (Brereton Lake friend ) on: Sep 25, 2018

I met Janet early in the summer of '67 at Brereton Lake. We were both 15 and spent all summer swimming, skiing, and hanging out at the Whiteshell Inn with our many friends from the lake. She was such a personable , likeable and kind human being and I never forgot her in the 50 years that followed. Rest easy, old friend. - Posted by: Jack Tinsley (Old friend) on: Aug 24, 2018

Myself and 50 childhood friends from both Rockwood Elementary and Grant Park High send condolences to Janet's family. The Kidz N Da Hood were all able to see her at least one more time. We hope she enjoyed sharing memories with us as we enjoyed her attendance at our gathering. She will be missed but remembered at all our future gatherings.
