MARY ROSE BLACK "SAM"
Born: Oct 01, 1950
Date of Passing: Sep 03, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY ROSE BLACK "SAM" How lucky we are to have had someone who makes saying goodbye so incredibly hard. So it is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Mary on September 3, 2018. Mary was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia on October 1, 1950, to the late Donald and Rita MacLeod of Cape Breton. She graduated from Holy Angels High School in Sydney, NS and obtained her R.N. at the Halifax Infirmary. It was there that she met her husband of 43 years, Dr. Brian Black. Brian and Mary were blessed with two children, son Michael (Jocelyn Preston) and grandson Huxley, and daughter Meghan (Brent Tombs). Survived by her husband Brian, by sisters, Anne (Cyril MacPherson), Bernadette (Warren Spracklin), Josephine (Ron McCarron), and brothers, Donnie (Linda) and John (Helen) all of Cape Breton. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Beverly Templar (Peterborough), Jill Macniven (New Jersey, USA), numerous nieces and nephews, and special friends, Kathy and Craig Blacker of Winnipeg. Predeceased by sister Frances (Kerry MacLellan) of Sydney. Mary loved children, the Winnipeg Jets and was a voracious reader. She also loved her many return trips to Cape Breton. In lieu of flowers, please do something nice for our most precious and non-renewable resource, "the children" (Children's Hospital Foundation). "Sam" would have liked that. A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Ignatius Church (Stafford) on Friday, September 7 at 1:00 p.m.

Mary was a wonderful lady and it was a pleasure and an honour to have known her. We recall one memorable event when Mary, Brian and ourselves went to the Red River Ex to see Mary's cousin Rita McNeil perform and ended up all dancing with Rita onstage in bare feet in the rain!! Many fond memories! Sincere condolences to Brian, Meghan, & Michael and the Family. Per Ardua ad Astra - Posted by: Merv & Marilyn Letts (Friends of the Family) on: Sep 10, 2018
