ISABEL ELAINE SAUNDERS (nee LECKIE) August 5, 1938 - September 18, 2018 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a vibrant, strong and caring woman. With family by her side, Isabel Saunders passed away September 18, 2018. Isabel will be forever missed. Left to cherish and honour her memory are her three daughters: Susan, Diana (Jon) and Lindsey (Wayne); sisters: Helen Mitchell and Janis (Jim) Benzelock; her dearest Lloyd Rigby; brother-in-law Ed Bryant; grandchildren: Layne, Ian, Kyle and Kara; great-grandchildren: James and Madison, many nieces, nephews and cousins, along with their families, as well as an incredible number of wonderful friends, she was such a social butterfly. Isabel was predeceased by her husband Harry; mother and father; sister Heather Bryant, and brother-in law Lloyd Mitchell. Isabel was born in Winnipeg and raised in the Wolseley area. She attended Wolseley, Isaac Brock and Daniel Mac schools. She always remained close to her three sisters and her extended family, never forgetting to acknowledge a birthday. The family loved her unforgettable mocha chocolate birthday cakes (she made us all chocoholics)! Isabel worked as a stewardess with Trans Canada Airlines and for Great-West Life prior to marrying her first love Harry in 1962. Isabel was a homemaker and a wonderful mother to her three daughters. She volunteered at every school function, and was always available to taxi each of her three daughters to their activities. Isabel always found time to volunteer for many organizations such as Canadian Cancer Society, Museum of Man and Nature, and Osborne House. She was an area zone coordinator for the door to door Canadian Cancer Society canvassers for her area. Isabel loved life and everything it had to offer. She always looked forward to spending her summers at the cottage at Falcon Lake and for the last 22 winters in Mesa. She really did not want to drive on the snow packed streets of Winnipeg any longer. She travelled to many destinations with friends and family. She was very active and claimed to be a jack of all sports but a master of none. She loved to golf and curl, has put 100's of miles on her bicycle at Falcon Lake and still swam across the lake two years ago. She was an armchair quarterback of the Jets, Bombers, and Goldeyes even if she had never played the game! Isabel had a warm smile, generous heart, truly enjoyed cooking and baking for her numerous dinner parties and for all family get-togethers, she was an awesome hostess. Isabel also thoroughly enjoyed bridge and had a number of fantastic bridge ladies that she played with for over 50 years. Everyone always knew where she stood on a topic and she was world renowned for not holding back her opinion. She had a knack for telling it like it is, sugar coating nothing...that was our mom. She was always right! Thank you Mom for all the laughter and fun, for your advice, kind words and for being our best friend; always there when needed, a wonderful mother. Heaven has received another angel. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff of the 5th floor Women's Pavilion; the doctors, nurses and aides for their kindness and compassion for the very short time Isabel was in their care. Thanks for all the outpouring of love from family and many friends. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of Isabel's life will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2018. Please come and go anytime between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. at Canad Inns Destination Centre Polo Park, 1405 St. Matthews Avenue, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, and to honour Isabel's memory, a donation may be made in her name to either CancerCare Manitoba or the Canadian Cancer Society.

We are so sad to see our friend/s lose such an important part of her/their lives. The tribute written gave us a glimpse of the true spirit Isabel was. It makes sense to see the wonderful daughters whom she inspired. We are thankful for Isabel welcoming us into her cottage and the memories we have from those weekends. I wish there were words to say to make these days easier, but know that you are loved and cared about by us. Brent and Bernie. Susan, Diana, Lindsey: I was shocked to hear of your Mom's passing. She looked to be in great health just a few weeks ago when she attended my Mom's funeral service. I have fond memories from our days on Addison Crescent, and the times my family were her guests at Falcon Lake. I like to think our Moms are all playing bridge in heaven. - Posted by: Michael Alward (Former Neighbour & Friend of the Family) on: Sep 28, 2018
