MARCIA RABER Marcia Raber (nee Slobinsky) peacefully passed away on September 20, 2018 at the Middlechurch Home where she had resided for the past three and a half years. Born December 10, 1932. She was predeceased by her husband Jack (Blackie) in January, 2017, her parents, Jack and Sarah Slobinsky, and sister Fraidla Pollick. Marcia is survived by her children, Bruce (Rowena), Janice Wilks and Howard (Sheila); and grandchildren, Sari, Caylee (Eric), Jay, Jena, Sheara and Meira; sister Debbie Lexier (Easton) and many nieces and nephews. Marcia had a great love of family, friends and community. For over 70 years she stayed connected with a close group of women friends known as the "Gabalots". She volunteered with many organizations including the Pan Am Games. She was involved with many reunions most notably the St. John's Tech (her alma mater) and the Raber Family Reunion. Marcia volunteered at Seven Oaks Hospital for many years and had been one of the first members to join the Wellness Institute where she was an active "aquasizer". She loved being a member of the Winnipeg Beach community where she enjoyed sitting on the beach chewing "spits" while watching her grandchildren play in the water. Over the years, Marcia and Jack enjoyed travelling; especially their winter cruises and their many visits to Edmonton and Vancouver. She was a fantastic baker and chocolatier, enjoyed needle point and knitted the most beautiful sweaters for her family. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff at Middlechurch Home who showed such loving compassion, friendship, support and provided our Mom and Baba with a safe and nurturing environment. "Terrified to Forget, Forbidden to Remember" is a perfect analogy for those inflicted with dementia. It is truly about getting into their world of reality and to enjoy the time you have with them. Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 23, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Congregation Etz Chayim, 123 Matheson Ave. E. Burial will be at Rosh Pina Cemetary at 2795 Main St. followed by a gathering of family back at Etz Chayim Synagogue for a meal of condolence. As Sunday is the start of Sukkot, there will not be a formal Shiva. Friends and family are welcome to come by and share stories and memories of Marcia on Monday and Tuesday, September 24 and 25 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 2 Mirabelle Road, West St. Paul. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, in care of the Executive Director, in honour of Marcia Raber for the North 1 Unit.
