BEDA DRURY 1948 - 2018 Peacefully, in her own home, surrounded by her children and husband, Beda Drury passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2018. Born Marlene Doell Neumann in Forest Grove, Oregon, she moved with her family to Ohio, Alberta and finally to Winnipeg - where she met Wayne Drury 50 years ago at the University of Manitoba. As she tells her story: "I have been richly blessed in my 70 years. During that time I have been married to, loved and adored Wayne, and he has adored me. I have raised three beautiful, smart, funny, interesting children - Martha (Daniel Velarde) in Mexico City, Josh (Carrie Simpson) in Las Vegas and Emma (Chris McIlwraith) in Winnipeg. I have seen two of my granddaughters come into this world (Charlie Drury and Abigail McIlwraith); and two granddaughters (Madison Beale, oldest daughter of Carrie Simpson, and Winter Oberg, daughter of Pierre Oberg, my son from a previous relationship) who do not live in Winnipeg but who I have been blessed to know. I have been surrounded and loved by a host of friends (The Grackles and the storytellers and the neighbours) who have been helping us through these difficult times. I know they will continue to look after my dear ones after I have gone." At her request, there will be a potluck celebration of Beda's life at 200 Dromore on Friday, September 28 between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Beda volunteered for a special storytelling group which included people who had communication difficulties. She was so grateful to be part of the group and loved all of us. She was funny and outrageous and she helped us feel good about ourselves and laugh at our humanness. She was a lovely singer and contributed to our musical interludes and our special parties. She was able to draw people out and was very gentle in her expectations. She was forthright about her own struggles which helped us love her more. She will be missed in our group and will be remembered in our hearts. We loved you Beda. Now you will know the difference you have made on earth. - Posted by: Allison Baird (Beda volunteered for me) on: Oct 19, 2018

I have know Beda for a very long time as I met her when our boys went to school together many years ago. Although we were not close, every time I bumped in to her I was always so touched by her beauty, her love for her children and grandchildren, and her amazing relationship with her husband. Beda was truly a loving free spirit... My heart goes out to the family during this time of grief. Thinking of all. Candy - Posted by: Candy Badger (Friend) on: Sep 30, 2018

Wayne, Martha, Josh and Emma, I am so very sorry for your loss. When I think of my favourite patients I always think of the Drury's. I always enjoyed our talks at my desk. My heart goes out to each and every one of you. Beda was an amazing woman. Laura - Posted by: Laura Medven ( Dr. Helpers office) on: Sep 29, 2018
