DAWN EASTVELD (nee JOHNSTON) On Saturday, September 29, 2018, Dawn Eastveld, loving wife of Paul Eastveld and mother of son Gene Bowers, passed away at age 74. Dawn is survived by her husband Paul; son Gene (wife Dana); grandchildren, Jordan, Nolan, Ethan and Ryan; her sister Jeanne (husband Frank Plett); brothers, Mitchell Johnston, Douglas Johnston (wife Charlotte), and David Johnston (wife Clara); stepchildren, Wayne, Wendy, Joanne and Kenneth Eastveld, as well as Gregory, Monty and Sherry Bowers, along with their spouses, children and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Lorne Johnston and mother, La Delle. On June 1, 1944 Dawn was born at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was raised in Emerson, Manitoba where she attended school in Emerson and in St. Jean Baptiste. Dawn was employed at the Manitoba Telephone Service both in Emerson and Winnipeg. She later worked at the University of Manitoba moving to the Department of Education, ultimately retiring. Dawn enjoyed being with family especially visiting them in her gazebo during the summer months. She was involved in square dancing, enjoyed travelling and in her later years spent much of her time listening to music, reading and doing puzzles on her iPad. Dawn had a great sense of humour always making the best of any situation, she loved making others laugh. Dawn will be sadly missed. A memorial service was held in her honour Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba. In honour of Dawn her family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Children's Hospital Foundation, a Foundation strongly supported by the Winnipeg Police Association.
