Condolences & Memories (13 entries)

  • I am shocked ! Reading the Metro today and seeing a full back page ad regarding the Charleswood Hawks Jr. Hockey Club and the new President succeeding long time and very successful President Wayne Deschouwer who recently passed away.I am in disbelief and immediately took a drive over to Eric Coy arena staring looking around feeling that my old friend was around as it did not seem that long ago we saw each other at the Headingley Grill (where we both frequent) and he would always poke fun at my Montreal Canadiens attire or the New York Yankees ball cap! Wayne and I first met with the Smitty's organization in 1995 where I helped Wayne coach the team and one of the players Kari Vigar on that team would say she was coached by the 2 Wayne's !! We always seem to cross paths after the 95 season whether at the Grill,at a hockey rink or on the diamond as he umpired in the MSSTL even after a health set back. We hit it off as "buds" I am so sorry I missed his service and only today reading about the team he was so proud to be a major part of !! RIP Wayne Although so late my sincere condolences to the Deschouwer family - Posted by: Wayne Riley (Friends through fastball) on: Dec 08, 2018

  • Wayner.... I spoke at your funeral and was extremely honoured to do so. Much like everyone else, Life has not been the same for me since you passed. I have had a very hard time and have been very emotional. Tonight at the first Charleswood Hawks board meeting since your passing I was elected as the President of the Charleswood Hawks. Although I am extremely honoured, I am also very scared. My promise to you is that I will do everything and anything in my power to maintain everything that you have worked so hard to create within the Charleswood Hawks Organization. Thank you for giving me an opportunity, Thank you for supporting me and Thank you for mentoring me. I will do my best to make you proud, Sincerely, Stephen - Posted by: Stephen George (Friend) on: Nov 07, 2018

  • I’m shocked. Reading this just hours after Wayne was laid to rest. Wayne And i met 20 years ago as competitors in the MMJHL. We soon became friends as we learned to respect each other. 13 years later Wayne asked me if I would join the Hawks organization as GM. How could I say no to have an opportunity to work under Wayne. I’m sorry I missed today. My sincere condolences to the Deschouwer family. - Posted by: Craig Gillon (Friends through hockey ) on: Oct 06, 2018

  • Our sincere condolences to the Deschouwer family on Wayne’s passing. Truely sad and very unfortunate to lose Wayne so young. The sporting community in Charleswood, Winnipeg and indeed Manitoba has suffered a huge loss. Wayne was a big guy and his shoes were/are even bigger to fill. A big ‘thank-you and shout out to both Clemence and Wayne for feeding and allowing our Matthew to hang out at the Deschouwer family home in Charleswood over the course of several years throughout junior high and senior highschool years. RIP Wayne! P & C Risk - Posted by: Paul & Cathy Risk (Opposition coach & Charleswood Hockey parents.) on: Oct 06, 2018

  • My sincere condolences go out to the Deschouwer family as I am still reeling over the news I heard today of Wayne's passing. Wayne was always a true gentleman and friend over my years coaching softball and my 5 years as General Manager at John Blumberg Softball Complex. A more knowledgeable and partisan umpire you could not find. Godspeed Wayne! - Posted by: Sean Gange (Friend ) on: Oct 06, 2018

  • It is with a heavy heart I’m writing this. I have known Wayne for over 20 years and a better man you would not find. Wayne you will missed by everyone that came in contact with you. A fierce competitive side but always gracious in defeat (that didn’t happen much with the Hawks). Wayne I will miss you so very much. I’m still in shock. RIP my good friend! - Posted by: Vern Kellett (Hockey friend) on: Oct 05, 2018

  • Wayne will always be remembered, he had a special presence about him that was very endearing . I truly enjoyed the times we had together from Grey Cup trips, playing hockey, our just around a table talking about anything that was going on. He will be missed by all the Organizations he was involved with and by all the people that were lucky to have met him. He contributed so much to everyone without expecting any recognition in return. I will miss him and will cherish the memories of this Hall of Famer, my thoughts and prayers go out to all his family. Rest in Peace Wayne - Posted by: Lloyd ( Marcy ) Beaucage (Friend) on: Oct 04, 2018

  • Wayne meant the world to our Membership and all those involved in Softball Manitoba’s Development & Competition Programs. Over the years Wayne has done everything asked of him from my desk and our Office – as professionally and efficiently as possible – continuously gaining friendships along the way. An award he attained in 2012 says it all – It was that year that Wayne was proudly honored with the Jim Adams Memorial Award as Softball Manitoba’s Outstanding Executive Member, Builder and Administrator. It is easy to justify him winning this Award every one of the 30 years that I have known him in our Sport. I am honored to have been his friend and appreciate everything he taught me. I will never forget the respect he showed me and just how easy it was to work alongside such a great man. RIP Wayne and Countless Thoughts and Prayers to Your Family from all of us at Softball Manitoba. Don Klym - Posted by: Don Klym (Friend) on: Oct 04, 2018
