LOUIS ALECK DAUPHINAIS December 3, 1924 - September 13, 2018 After a courageous battle with cancer, Louis passed away peacefully with family by his side at the Selkirk General Hospital on September 13, 2018. He is survived by his long time partner, Arla Campbell; his children Lilly (Wally), Ray (Rita) and Gail (Craig); grandchildren Marcia (Matt), Gloria (Ty) and Julia; great-grandson Logan; by his first wife and mother of his children, Ruby; by his stepchildren Bill (Judy), Mel (Laurie) Campbell; and step-daughter-in-law Deenie Campbell; step-grandchildren Rhonda, Randy, Clayton, Robert (Darcy), Richard Campbell; and four step-great-grandchildren. Also by numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was predeceased by his parents; and all his siblings; stepson Barry Campbell; and step-granddaughter Carrie Campbell. Louis was born and raised in Suffren, MB. He joined the army at a young age and served overseas in the Second World War with the Winnipeg Rifleman. He served in England, France, Belgium, Germany and Holland and received many medals for his participation. After returning home from the war he married Ruby Peltier and together they raised their three children. He lived in St. Charles, Beausejour, Transcona, Harperville and Selkirk, MB, where he resided at the time of his passing. Louis worked for Super Crete for over 35 years in Winnipeg and the job took him to numerous places in Manitoba building bridges, etc. After retiring he moved to Harperville in 1992 where he and Arla developed their retirement home. He enjoyed hunting and socializing with the boys. When he quit hunting he started feeding the deer and birds in his yard. He maintained a large yard and vegetable garden and developed a beautiful flower garden for Arla. He had a passion for cutting wood and was still cutting and hauling it out of the bush until a year ago. Louis was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, St. Laurent Metis Branch 250, serving on the executive for many years, lastly as Sergeant-at-Arms. He was selected by the Legion to represent the Veterans of Canada by carrying the Olympic Torch when it travelled through St. Laurent in 2010. He was a faithful fan of the Montreal Canadiens hockey team, never missing a game on television. He loved old time music, especially fiddle music. He and Arla attended all the Old Time country dances in the area and he never missed a dance until a few years ago. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Selkirk General Hospital for their excellent care and compassion given to Louis. There will be a celebration of his long life on October 13 at 11::00 a.m. at the St. Laurent Legion, St. Laurent, MB. Donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • With Veterans Day coming up tomorrow, I googled to see if Uncle Louis would be mentioned. I'm sorry to hear he has passed on and hope that his last days were not too uncomfortable. I always got news of the family from my Mom, Agnes, but she died a few years ago so haven't heard anything of the family. My condolences to the family. - Posted by: Florence Stokes (Neice) on: Nov 10, 2020

  • I will miss your stories when I would visit you. You would always say I wouldn't visit often enough. Peg says she could never keep up with you while dancing with you. Keep dancing Uncle Louie we will always remember the times we had with you. GOD BLESS. - Posted by: Doug Dauphinais (nephew) on: Oct 18, 2020
