MANUEL JACINTO CABRAL BORGES May 14, 1931 - October 5, 2018 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our father Manuel on October 5, 2018, with his family at his side, at Seven Oaks Hospital, at the age of 87. Manuel leaves behind his beloved two children who meant the world to him, son Manuel and daughter Emilia (Vasco), along with two granddaughters, Mackenzie and Megan. Besides his immediate family, Manuel leaves behind his brothers, Mariano Borges (Donaria) of Markham Ontario, Jose Borges of Sao Miguel, Joao Borges of Sao Miguel; sisters-in-law, Natalia Borges of Sao Miguel, Maria DaCosta, Lucia Cabral, Fernanda Cabral.  He also leaves behind many nephews, nieces, godchildren and friends. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 42 years of marriage; his mother Emilia Borges, father Manuel Borges, stepmother Almarinda Borges, mother-in-law Maria Do Carmo, brother-in-law Manuel Cabral, sister-in-law Maria Adriana Borges, brother-in-law Moses Almeida, brother-in-law Fernando Cabral, brother Raul Borges, brother-in-law Manuel DaCosta, sister-in-law Valdomira Cabral, sister Maria dos Anjos Almeida, brother-in-law Agustinho Cabral, brother-in-law Jose Vieira Cabral, and sister-in-law Deolinda Cabral. Manuel was born on May 14, 1931 in Arrifes, Sao Miguel, Acores. He arrived in Canada in 1968 and immediately began working in the construction industry. In 1995 Manuel retired due to illness, and spent his golden years tending to his gardens, and fruit trees. Manuel had many loves and passions, but was most passionate about his wife, and his faith. He had many friends, but was most dear to those who shared his love for his faith, and those that were well read. He always cherished the moments he spent with his children, but was fiercely focused on his granddaughters. Manuel was not wealthy, but never walked away from helping those in need and they're causes, he always volunteered when asked, and gave of his will where it was required. The family would like to thank the incredible staff and volunteers at St. Joseph's Residence, who made Manuel's life better, he often said he was very happy there. The family would also like to thank the nursing staff and attending doctors at Seven Oaks General Hospital for the care and compassion they gave our father in his last days. The family would like to extend their thanks to Paulo Cabral for his help and wealth of knowledge in these moments of chaos, and all the pallbearers, Jose Manuel Cabral, Joao Luis Cabral, Jorge Cabral, Paulo Manuel Cabral, and Kevin Ferreira. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Parish, 181 Austin Street N. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday October 11, 2018 at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Parish. All family and friends are invited to a reception at Mosaic Reception Centre, 1839 Inkster Blvd. immediately following the entombment. In lieu of flowers, donations to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3E 0V9, would be very appreciated, as our father was passionate about good causes. For all who wish to attend, Manuel's Seventh Day Mass will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 9:00 am at Immaculate Conception Parish. Descansa en Paz

  • I remember that sometimes my family went to visit him at his house and while my father spent time with him on the main floor me and my sister would go to his basement and play with his old antiques. • Condolences from me and my family to Manuel & Emilia and your families on the loss of your father. He was a very kind and giving man and I know you will miss him dearly. - Posted by: Tony Silva (friend/family) on: Oct 10, 2018

  • Your father was a very caring and friendly person. I knew him for many years and liked to talk to him. Going back to 11, 12 years he was going to Middle Church for the day and my Mom was going too. My Mom was so happy that she met him, they were taking the same bus and they would talk, my Mom did not speak English so she was glad she met someone to speak Portuguese. She has passed away it will be 10 years in November. My condolences to Emilia and Manuel as well as the rest of the family, may he rest in Peace. - Posted by: Aida Rosa Governo (friend) on: Oct 08, 2018
