CORRIE ANTOINETTA SMEETS (nee BREDO) It is with deep sadness that we announce Corrie's passing on Monday, October 1, 2018. Left to cherish her memory are her loving daughters, Margaret (Gene), Linda (Keith) and Jennifer (Ken); grandchildren, Melina, Riley, Connor and Elle; as well as her brothers, Hans (Winnipeg), Toine and Ben; and only sister Jacquie; all from the Netherlands. She was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Maria, husband of 54 years, Adrian and brothers, Noud, Jan, Frans, Sjef (the Netherlands) and Kees (Winnipeg). Mom was born and raised in Tilburg, the Netherlands. After marrying Dad in 1956, she immigrated to Canada where they started their lives together. To Mom, family was everything. Her priority was to ensure a cozy home for her family and a delicious home-cooked meal every day for all to enjoy. Her cooking of Dutch cuisine was second to none. The door to their home was always open for a cup of coffee, a bite to eat or a game of cards. When Mom wasn't doting on her family, she loved to knit, sew, puzzle and paint, to name a few of her pastimes. She had a unique sense of humour and always saw the good in everyone. She was never one to complain, always looked at life with the simple wisdom of choosing the positive side. One of the many things she will be remembered for was her sweet smile. Thank you Mom for all the laughter and fun, for your advice and kind words and for being our best friend for everything. You were always there when we needed you. Most of all thank you for your unconditional love. We love you and will miss you so much! Family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff from Courage Bay and Charity Road at River East Personal Care Home. We appreciate all the love, kindness and compassion that went into caring for our Mom in the last six years of her life. In keeping with Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald St. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. • I am so sorry to hear that your mom has passed away. The last time I saw her she was roaring around River East Personal Care home on a mission. Your mom was lovely. She was always smiling and easy to visit with. I know how much she loved your visits and the treats like Tim's Tea or coffee that you brought on all your visits. Our family will always cherish our "singing contests" to Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline" at the summer BBQ and spending time with your mom while visiting my mom. My sincere condolences as you walk through what I am certain is the hardest chapter in life we are handed. Losing our mom's puts a hole in our hearts but leaves us remembering all the good times, the great home cooked meals and cherished memories of life's milestones. Big hugs to you Margaret, Linda and Jennifer. Our family is thinking of you during this sad time. Linda van den Broek and the Shanley family. - Posted by: Linda van den Broek (Friend ) on: Oct 14, 2018

  • Our deepest sympathies to the family. My family was fortunate to have met Corrie during our visits at river east to our own mother residing there. Corrie always had a kind hello and smiled her beautiful smile for us each time we saw her. Her love for her children showed not only in her pretty eyes and the way she looked at them, but in the way her children were always, always there to spend time with her and make her days bright. She obviously raised them well and taught them to love and care so much. Sending strong hugs to Margaret, Linda and Jennifer and your families during this very tough chapter in your lives. The Shanley family. - Posted by: Tracey shanley (Friend) on: Oct 14, 2018
