MARIO NICOLA CASTAGNA December 7, 1967 - October 13, 2018 Peacefully after his courageous battle with cancer, at the young age of 50, we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother and uncle, on October 13, 2018. Mario was predeceased by his loving mother Giacomina Castagna (nee Costa). His memory will be forever cherished by his father Michele Castagna; siblings, Saverio (Lori) Castagna, Tony Castagna and Rina (Frank) Consiglio; nephew Dante Consiglio; nieces, Cassandra and Isabella Consiglio, and Lauren Castagna; Aunt Maddalena Castagna; Uncle Nick (Carmela) Costa and many cousins and friends. Mario was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on December 7, 1967. After graduating from Grant Park High School, he spent many years working in Winnipeg at various places and made many lifelong friends along this journey. Eight years ago, Mario embarked on the adventure of his life, moving to Alberta and working for Sodexo in communities in and around Fort McMurray. He had a great love for fast classic cars and all action hero movies. Batman was no doubt his favourite. Mario will be remembered by many as a stand up guy who always had your back. He was a good friend to many. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. The family would like to thank Gord McPake, Randyne Kerr and Andrea Nawolsky for their enduring support and friendship that they extended to Mario while living in Calgary and in particular during the time of his illness. Special thanks to the doctors, nurse and staff at the River View Health Centre Palliative Care for ensuring his comfort. The family will receive condolences at 10:00 a.m., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, October 19, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave., Rev. Father Sam Argenziano presiding. Pallbearers are his nephew Dante Consiglio, cousins Saverio and Aldo Castagna, Tony and Franco Costa, friend Gord McPake. Honorary pallbearers will be his cousin Mike Castagna and friends Andrea Nawolsky and Steve Gilkes. Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • Mario and I were very good friends. I would fly back to Winnipeg and we'd plan a movie night. He loved the comic book movies that started to take off in the theaters. We had many good times together. We lost contact a few of years back, which was and is a shame. Mario was a strong and great person. I missed him and will forever be thankful we were good friends. All the best, all the strength and blessings to his family and close friends. Raffaele Falvo - Posted by: Raffaele Falvo (Friend) on: Mar 13, 2021
