HELEN ROSE LATIMER (nee PROCYSHYN) 1933 - 2018 Peacefully, with her family at her side, Helen passed away at Riverview Health Centre on October 12, 2018, at the age of 85 years. Helen was born in Kirkland Lake, ON on January 28, 1933 to Peter and Mary Procyshyn. Shortly after her birth, her family relocated to Sherridon, MB which was later known as "the town that moved" and eventually became what is now known as Lynn Lake. After completing a stenography program in Winnipeg at the age of 17, Helen returned to Lynn Lake to work for Sherritt Gordon Mines Ltd. In 1956 she won the title of Trapper's Festival Fur Queen in The Pas, and it was there that the love of her life, Gerry (Lawrence Gerald) Latimer, Jr. 1933 to 1978, proposed to her. They were married on July 11 of that same year. After Dad's sudden and unexpected death in 1978, Mom became both Mother and Father to four teenagers. No easy task; she mastered it with tons of love and constant encouragement. In 1980, Helen moved to Winnipeg and began working as a receptionist for Milnco Insurance, a position she loved for the 24 years she worked there. Mom's most fun and fulfilling role came along just after she moved to Winnipeg - Grandmother! Mom loved her grandchildren so much and she spent many hours entertaining them, laughing with them and feeding them tons of yummy food in her home in Colony Square. In a 2001 interview with her eldest granddaughter, Mom said she lived her life with the following values in mind: Do a good deed every day; Be kind and respectful to others; and thank God for your blessings. She certainly attained these goals, and so much more, and we will all try to live up to her example. Missing her already are her sister June Ranson; her children, Dene, Desiree (Carlos), Deri (Randy) and Devin (Keri); her grandchildren, Michael (Krystal), Jeffrey (Natalie), Mercege (Ryan), Jagger, Ali, Max, Hazel and Oscar; her great-grandchildren, Hudson, Landon and Charlee; her dear friend for life, Elizabeth Sokoloski and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. We are very grateful to the kind and caring staff at Riverview Health Centre, with a special hug for Krystina who was a constant, comforting connection for us all. A private family service will be held after cremation and Helen will then join Gerry in Lynn Lake. We love you Ma!

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • A beautiful tribute to a beautiful woman. I (Cindy) have a fond memory of dancing with Helen in our kitchen after sharing a meal together. We always enjoyed seeing her at Randy and Deri’s house for special occasions. Our thoughts are with all of the family. - Posted by: Cindy and Bill Gammon (family) on: Oct 27, 2018
