RICHARD D. POTTER
Born: Jun 13, 1967
Date of Passing: Oct 18, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRICHARD D. POTTER Peacefully, and surrounded by his family, Richard D. Potter, aged 51, passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2018. Rick was predeceased by his father Rick, and is survived by his two children, Jackson and Abigail, his mother Simone, his brothers, Bob (Susan) and Jason (Karly), his sister Dayna (Adam) Persichetti, his grandmother Lillian, and his former wife and mother of his children Leanne Penny, as well as his many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Born on June 13, 1967, Rick grew up in Brandon, Manitoba, and graduated in 1985 from Neelin High School. After attending his first year at Brandon University, he continued his studies in Winnipeg, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Manitoba. Rick went on to study accounting, and received his Chartered Accountant designation in 1994, while working at the Winnipeg office of MNP. He pursued his career with vigour, becoming a partner in 2002 and being elected to the firm's Board of Directors in 2009. He was committed to his profession, serving on multiple boards at both the national and provincial levels, including as President and Chair of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Manitoba in 2007-2008. Rick was awarded his FCA designation in 2007, in recognition of his dedication to the profession. Rick was always very giving of his time, serving on many community and business boards and committees in a volunteer capacity. Rick loved his family and was always happiest watching his kids and their friends at the hockey rink and volleyball court. For both Jackson and Abby, he coached mini-soccer teams, managed hockey teams and cheered passionately for high school and club volleyball teams. Rick was also an avid Winnipeg Jets fan and a long-time Seattle Seahawks fan - his best and worst moment was attending the Super Bowl game in 2015 and seeing his beloved team lose on the final play. Rick was known for his sense of humour - he would stop at nothing to make people laugh. He truly had a unique gift; his combination of quick wit and silliness will be missed by all who knew him. Rick had some personal struggles in recent years, but these struggles did not define him and will not be how he is remembered by those who loved him. Family and friends will be celebrating his life at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2018. The service will be held at the United Church in Meadowood, 1111 Dakota Street, Winnipeg, MB.

Rick was a volunteer member of the Ducks Unlimited Winnipeg South fundraising committee and dedicated years of invaluable financial assistance to the committee. His legacy in this role lives on with his firm continuing their annual volunteer contribution. A fine person, gone too soon. - Posted by: John Milne (Friend) on: Nov 02, 2018

I knew Rick in high school and university. We shared lots of laughs and created some great memories over a fairly short period of time. I was so sorry to hear about his passing. I always smile when I think of Rick and suspect there are many others who will continue to do the same. - Posted by: Tracie Arrell Wilkinson (Long ago friend) on: Oct 31, 2018

Have great memories of biking over to the Potters and playing hours of football on the front lawn with Rick and Bob. Rick clearly had the better arm and he and I won many Superbowls over Dean and Bob! Lol We had lots of laughs! Great Memories! He will be missed. - Posted by: Kyle Jones (Friend) on: Oct 27, 2018

Rick and I were both partners with MNP and served together on the Board for a few years. He was a lovely guy, lots of fun, very sharp, and clearly a very devoted dad to his kids. When we found out about his sudden death, we were devastated. It's hard to believe that he's gone. Godspeed Rick. - Posted by: Tony Smith (Business partner) on: Oct 27, 2018
