Born: May 24, 1936
Date of Passing: Nov 02, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD YUTAKA FURUTANI May 24, 1936 - November 2, 2018 It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our dear Papasan. Left to cherish his legacy is his loving wife Marlyn, and his five children, Melanie (Terry), Debbie (George), Robin (Marilyn), Kevin, and Reid (Shona). Don retired from MTS after a 37 and one-half year career. An active outdoorsman, Papa enjoyed curling, fishing, golfing, camping, and baseball. He spent many years volunteering with the Japanese Cultural Centre and could often be found at the Fort Whyte and Gerald LaCoste garden centre. His love for travel took him to many different places, but he could be found returning to the destinations that he loved the most. Beaver Flats, Phoenix, Calgary, Regina and Three Islands Resort were the places that allowed him to create treasured memories with his seven grandchildren: Olivia, Cara, Lauren (deceased 1989), Michelle, Emily, Trevor, and Sarah. Papa also enjoyed special alone time with his two great-grandchildren Dezeray and Matthew. His only surviving sibling is Clara Mar of Newark, California. Go be with Lauren, Papa. We will always love you. A celebration of his life will take place in May, 2019.

My condolences to you Marilyn and your family and to all the friends Don had. I knew he was ill and as I passed near you on my way from Costco I wanted to drop by as had done before but my condition was to keep away from others who were ill. I was always good to work with Don in volunteering and great hospitality when I stopped by. Rest in Peace - Posted by: Robert Bull (friend and co-worker) on: Nov 10, 2018

My heart breaks to read this. Growing up visiting my nana and grandpa next door always meant I got a visit from “uncle” Don too! It won’t be the same without his big smile there! Sending so much love to his whole family, especially Marilyn during this hard time! Quinn and I will be sure to make it out there soon and pay our respects. So much love from myself and my family in Calgary! - Posted by: Ceilidh MacMullin (Friend) on: Nov 06, 2018

I will always remember Don puttering around outside, taking time to chat, and especially for being my snow angel, with his dear friend Jim. He will be missed dearly in our neighborhood! The Wallmans will be keeping you in our thoughts during this difficult time. As our own father slowly weakens and we prepare for the inevitable, I know that one can never be fully prepared for the loss. Our deepest sympathies to all of you.
