LARRY JAKE KEHLER September 7, 1952 - November 8, 2018 Larry passed away peacefully in his home in Winnipeg, MB on November 8, 2018. He was predeceased by his father Jacob Kehler and his mother Tina (Abrams) Kehler. Larry was born in Altona, MB where he spent his childhood and teenage years. A car accident at the age of 19 sent Larry to Winnipeg where he spent many months in recovery, learning to adapt to life in a wheelchair. Larry faced the many challenges in front of him with a brave and determined heart. He attended Red River College completing a diploma in Business Administration. Larry tried his hand at several different jobs after graduating college, eventually finding his way to Meyer's Auto Body Shop in St. Vital which is where he worked and enjoyed a long career as the front end service writer and book keeper until his retirement. Larry will be remembered as a very kind-hearted, soft spoken soul. His memory will live on with his sisters, Mary Ann Mowery, Dorothy (Lyal) McLean, Gladys (Terry) Eisbrenner and Connie (Brian) Livingstone as well as numerous adoring nieces and nephews, and Graham and family. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Donations in honour of Larry's life can be made to the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I know this comes a bit late, but Larry has been on my mind often in the last few months, so I thought I'd like to communicate a message to you. My sincerest condolences to you and your family, Gladys, on your loss. My best memories of Larry began in a high school business course, where he and I were partners in an activity where we invested in the Toronto Stock Exchange. He had an amazing ability to analyze business trends and to interpret factors that made companies' market values increase and decrease. His good sense and logic, as well as his leadership, taught me lots about investing - and business in general! Another thing that always impressed me about him was that when we tested our IQ's in high school, his score of 132 was well above mine! Some years after the accident, after he had completed his business education and was working at Meyers' in the 1980's, I would occasionally visit him there, whenever I came to Manitoba. (I had moved to BC in the 70's.) I always enjoyed the lighthearted style of conversations with Larry and his warm, friendly presence - but also his quick-witted commentary on all things business, government, and hockey! Late last year, I went to visit Mel Giesbrecht, and he told me of Larry's passing. I felt really saddened hearing that. Mel also mentioned that Larry had come to Altona to take a final look around in late 2018. I'm sure Larry is greatly missed, and that will continue I'm sure. And I will treasure my fond memories of him all of my life. Pete PeterGoertzen@gmail.com - Posted by: Pete Goertzen (Friend) on: Jan 17, 2021
