LESLIE EDWARD (LES) DYKE
Born: Jul 31, 1937
Date of Passing: Nov 01, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLESLIE EDWARD (LES) DYKE July 31, 1937 - November 1, 2018 Peacefully in hospice care, after years battling kidney disease and cancer. Survived by his daughter Leah, son Lorne (Robin); sisters, Carol Lang (Len) and Iris Trafton (George); and many nieces and nephews. Les will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by family and friends. He was very athletic in his younger years, loved five pin bowling and competed at a very high level in Canada. He was also part owner in a few race horses. Not one for your typical nine to five jobs, he worked as a plumber, surveyor, drove a messenger truck, installed siding and owned a second hand store among other things. Les was an avid collector, sports fan and trivia buff. He enjoyed watching classic movies, reading, puzzles, as well as having coffee and conversation with friends. As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and no service is planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honour to http://www.cancer.ca/ or https://www.kidney.ca/

I remember Les as one of the cities premier 5 pin bowlers. When I was in high school, I used to go to COMO lanes Friday evening to see the Men's 5 Pin All Stars bowl. I was bowling in high school and wanted to improve my game. I was amazed at the bowling averages of these bowlers. If I bowled a game myself and reached their average, I was doing very well. Well, these bowlers had to bowl three at this high level just to hold their average or bowl one or two higher ones in case they had an off game. I watched Les, Bobby King, Norm Shanas, Ken Boddis, Al Barbour and Al Enns to improve my game. I watched and studied their deliveries and picked what I wanted to do and practice on. Joe Cooper helped me a lot when I was practice bowling. It didn't take long as my improved average, I made the Senior Men's Sunday morning league and was bowling with the city top bowlers for the 1965-66 season. They wanted persons to have at least a 200 average to join this league. It was such a thrill to bowl with these fine bowlers and I have such fond memories of my time with them and Les. thank you Les for your help and memories in my bowling. - Posted by: colin dederick (Bowled in Senior Men's League, Sunday Mornings at COMO Lanes) on: Nov 17, 2018
