Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY BARR (nee DOROTHY MAY COX) May 1, 1925 - November 30, 2018 Dorothy left this world while in the company of her loving daughter, Carol and friends. She will be remembered for living everyday to the fullest with vigour and optimism. She faced difficult times as a single parent with resilience and courage. Dorothy was active all of her life, participating in different sports and recreational activities. She also enjoyed acting in Daniel Mac theatre productions. Dorothy was a gifted pianist, playing both classical and popular music and lent her talents to office parties, special events and family sing songs. She sang in the Holy Trinity Church Choir, loved the Opera, enjoyed travelling to different countries and attending concerts and sporting events. Dorothy earned the nickname "Tiger" by tenaciously supporting her staff while serving as the first woman supervisor with the Manitoba Unemployment Insurance Commission. Dorothy generously extended herself to others throughout her life, organizing skits for government Christmas parties and entertaining family get togethers in her home. She took good care of her elderly parents and organized large celebrations to commemorate her parent's 65th Wedding Anniversary and her mother's 100th birthday. When Dorothy retired after an extensive career with the government, she enjoyed 25 years at her summer cottage, where she continued her passion for masonry. With her faithful dog Jesse by her side, she enjoyed the company of family and friends and captured a 55-year legacy of special memories in a cedar-bound Guest Log Book. Dorothy appreciated all the forest and lake creatures and loved the outdoors, referring to her cottage haven as "a little bit of heaven." On behalf of my mother, I wish to thank the staff at Concordia Place for their kindness and compassion, as well as our friends for their love and support - the peace and beauty of the landscaped courtyard enriched mom's summers. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Dorothy's life will take place at a later date. If friends and relatives so desire, donations can be sent to Wildlife Haven Rehabilitation Centre, Box 165, Ile Deschenes, MB, R0A 0T0, phone: 204-878-3740 or wildlifehaven.ca. So sorry for your loss Carol. Your mother was not only a mom but a best friend to you. I will always remember her from West Hawk Lake when you and I were kids enjoying the summers there. Your mother was always welcoming, out going and a permanent fixture for us at McKenzie Beach. Blessings to you. Fran and David Betz Michigan - Posted by: Fran Betz (DeFehr) (Friend) on: Dec 09, 2018
