ANNE ZDAN (KUKA)
Born: Jun 25, 1917
Date of Passing: Dec 02, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNE ZDAN (nee KUKA) June 25, 1917 - December 2, 2018 We are saddened to announce that our dear Mother (Baba) has passed away peacefully with her children at her side at the Misericordia Community Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta. Mom was born on the family farm near Alonsa, Manitoba. She met her life partner, Bill Zdan, and they married in Winnipeg in 1947. Anne and Bill had two children, Ron and Norine. Mom is survived by her son Ron (Ginny) Zdan of Saskatoon; Norine (Don) Lowry of Edmonton; grandchildren, Jason, Ashley, Nikki (Brad); Jennifer (Mark), Kathryn and her great-grandson Max. She was predeceased by her parents, Maria and Daniel, her brother Willie, and her infant grandchild Megan. Mom grew up in Alonsa, Manitoba. Her Dad was an entrepreneur, which provided her with experience and skills in the livery barn and general store businesses. Mom also worked in Ontario for the war effort, returning to Winnipeg in 1945 where she met and married our Dad (Bill). Together, they made Winnipeg their home where they raised their children. They enjoyed a simple life which included many memorable gatherings with dear friends, relatives and family. They also spent their summers camping, fishing and attending cultural events throughout Manitoba. They retired to Portage la Prairie in 1985 and as Dad's health deteriorated, they moved to Saskatoon to be with Ron and his family. In 2011 (several years after Dad's passing) Mom moved to Edmonton to be closer to Norine and her family, where she resided in Canterbury Retirement Home until her passing. Mom always had a desire to travel (in particular to escape the cold winter weather). After Dad's death in 1999, she enjoyed numerous winter vacations to warmer destinations with her family. Mom was a very special person. She always had a smile for everyone and an especially positive attitude. Perhaps this is why she had such a long healthy life. She loved nothing more than to be surrounded by family. With this in mind, we are celebrating her life by having a small family gathering of remembrance. We will take her home to Winnipeg to be interned alongside our father and her parents at a later date. We consider ourselves extremely fortunate to have had so many good years with Mom/Baba. "Those we love don't go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near. Still loved, still missed."
