Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDON HEID It is with great sadness that the family of Donald "Don" Wayne Heid share news of his passing after a long journey with cancer on Sunday, December 16, 2018. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Lauren Heid, his wife Leslie Allen, his stepchildren, Sebastien, Dominic and Naomi Wong, his sister Marjorie and brother-in-law Robert Pullen, nephew Mark Pullen, great-niece Peyton Pullen, his mother Rena and brothers, Clayton and Raymond. Don was predeceased by his father Edward Heid August 5, 1997. Don was born on October 2, 1962 in Winnipeg, Manitoba where he lived until he was 10 years old. In 1972, The Heid family moved to Courtenay, BC where Don found his true home by the ocean. He left the coast in his early 20s and headed east to Calgary where he has resided since. He started his career path as a surveyor and eventually developed his own company: Sygnus Exploration. He then became a geophysical consultant for a number of national and international companies, holding senior positions with Pathfinder Geoservices, Devon Inc., and lastly with Canadian Natural Resources. His career took him around the world, including time in The United Emirates. He was very well respected in his industry, and above all, valued the connections and lifelong friendships he made during these years. Don was a true renaissance man, as he had many passions and pursuits. From fly fishing along the Ram, Bow River and in the Thuya Lake, to hiking the Burgess Shale, Burstall Pass (his favourite), Ha Ling and Yamnuska, to mention a few. He loved camping, skiing, fishing off the west coast, jumping into water holes on Vancouver Island with the kids and golfing with the boys. He was always ready for an adventure. He was also a gifted craftsman constantly renovating his homes and building unique pieces of furniture for himself and others. He loved to work on his vehicles, grow amazing flower and vegetable gardens and was a self-proclaimed chef. He shared his love of cooking by hosting many memorable get togethers and BBQs at his home. He was also a consummate teacher, always willing and eager to share his knowledge with others. From volunteering at his daughter's school to share his knowledge of geography and topography, to guiding friends with their home renovations and projects, nothing deterred him. Don was loving and compassionate father, stepfather, husband, brother, uncle and friend to so many and will be deeply missed. We would like to invite everyone to Don's Celebration of Life on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Carnmoney Golf and Country Club (44001 Dunbow Rd., De Winton, AB) at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, we ask folks to please donate to the Agapé Hospice who took amazing care of him during his final days of life. Donations can be mailed directly to: Agapé Hospice, 1302 8th Ave. NW, Calgary, AB T2N 1B8 in memory of Don Heid.
