Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKEITH BERKELEY SMITH It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Keith Berkeley Smith on December 19, 2018 at St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 71. Born in Winnipeg on August 5, 1947, Keith was the youngest son of Hall and Violet Smith. He grew up in the St. Boniface/ Norwood area and over the years shared many fond memories of his childhood. At an early age he developed a passion for music, photography and cars. His interest in music and playing in his band "Focus Cane" led him to meet the love of his life, Judy, who he married in 1973. They enjoyed cruising around in his Cuda and having a bite to eat at A & W. Keith started his career as a Professional Draftsman at Greensteel Industries after completing the Architectural Drafting program at Red River Community College. He then moved on to work for several departments of the Government of Manitoba including the Department of the Fire Commissioner as a building inspector, Manager of the Queens Printer and Employment Standards Officer for the Department of Labour. He retired in 2002 after over 25 years of service. Keith was a photography enthusiast which began at the age of 12. His professional career as a photographer began in 1964. This led to numerous awards and accomplishments which included Photographer of the Year in Manitoba multiple times, Master of Photographic Arts by Professional Photographers of Canada and a Master of Photography Degree with Professional Photographers of America. He also started Berkeley Studios which he ran for many years doing portraiture, photo decor and wedding/commercial photography. Later in life the focus of his photography changed to photos while travelling and candid shots of his family, most importantly of his grandkids whom he was so proud of. They will forever cherish the many photo albums he created for them. Keith was a gentle, quiet man, devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law and friend. He is survived by his loving wife Judy; daughters, Laura (Korey) and Karley (Rod); five grandchildren, Andrew, Annalise, Tysen, Brendan and Ryker; brother Gary (Janet) and numerous other family members and friends. He was predeceased by his mother and father. A memorial service will be held on December 30, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB. Donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.

So very sad to hear of Keith's passing. We served together on the Board of the Professional Photographers of Manitoba, as well as on several committees. He was a Master Photographer and a true gentleman, always willing and engaging in conversation with (at the time) a rookie member of the Association. - Posted by: Terry Wowchuk (Colleague) on: Jan 23, 2022

I have many fond memories of our time spent as members of the Professional Photographers of Canada. Keith was a talented photographer and leader and a good friend. I offer my condolences to Judy and their family. Art Wiebe - Posted by: Art Wiebe (friend and colleague) on: Jan 01, 2019

I knew Keith for quite a few years when we were both colleagues/members of the Professional Photographers of Manitoba. I remember Keith as a man who did what he said he would do (he served on the Board for a number of years, and as President in 1985). He was an outstanding photographer and was awarded the coveted 'Manitoba Photographer of the Year' 5 times! Only one other member has earned that distinction. It's been many years since I saw him, but I remember him with great respect. My condolences to Judy and the family. - Posted by: Marlene Fast HLM, MPA, SPA, F.Ph. (Colleague ) on: Dec 31, 2018

I do believe I knew Keith when he started his photography career working for my father at Davidson Studios on Osborne Street. Always an employee who was willing to take on everything from dark room duties to weddings and photographing houses for the Multiple Listings. A distinguished career which illustrated his passion for his chosen profession. - Posted by: John Davidson (Friend) on: Dec 29, 2018
