DAVID RENE CARRIERE
Born: Aug 05, 1958
Date of Passing: Jan 02, 2019
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDAVID RENE CARRIERE August 5, 1958 - January 2, 2019 It is with heavy hearts the family announces the passing of David Rene Carriere, at St. Boniface Hospital, on Wednesday, January 2, 2019. David was predeceased by his mother Betty, brother Brian and sister-in-law Valerie. David will be sadly missed by daughter Rebecca (Josh); his father Denis (Danny); brothers, Denis (Diane) and Michel; sister-in-law Pauline; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and Lucy. David loved his daughter Becca and was proud of all of her achievements and looked forward to her future success. The smile he had when she walked in the room was pure love for his "number one girl." David was born in Digby, NS and moved to Winnipeg when he was young and grew up in Winnipeg until his passing. David worked for Winnipeg Regional Health Services for over 25 years and truly enjoyed his work. David was very compassionate about the people he worked with, often collecting items needed and sharing with his clientele. David loved to laugh and had a great sense of humour. He was also a collector and took pleasure in his finds, sharing with his family. David loved music. He spent many hours creating his playlists for family functions. He shared his love of music with his daughter and many nieces and nephews, instilling in them a love for old rock. A family event was not complete wihtout David, his music and jokes. To honour David, the family will be hosting a celebration of his life at a later date. While our hearts are filled with sadness, we know that he is merely "gone treasure hunting."

Dave was one of the most dedicated employees. His dedication was always to the clients first. He genuinely cared for people and was loved by many. It was not uncommon for clients to ask after him if he was away for a while. He was also a fierce advocate for harm reduction and made Street Connections a better service because of this. One of his best contributions was as Santa Dave. His kindness and thoughtfulness brought out the same in his colleagues and as a result made many lives a little bit brighter. He always expressed his love for his daughter and family. Dave was a unique character and made a real positive difference in this weary world and he is greatly missed. - Posted by: Kim Bailey (Former boss and friend) on: Jan 31, 2019

Loyal was how Dave once described himself to me when he talked about his work. I found Dave not only loyal to the clients he worked with, but also loyal to his family. I worked with Dave when Becca was young and his loyalty and pride in her was always evident. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. - Posted by: Diane (colleague) on: Jan 08, 2019

Becca's dad was always very welcoming to whoever he met but I'll never forget when I was going through a miscarriage he was there for me, driving my to the hospital, staying with me till my family came and helping me stay awake while I was going through all this, I'll always remember how he loves to help people even if it's just for a shoulder to cry on, he was a very caring person. Can't believe he's gone! You will be missed by many. R.I.P. David. Sincerely Kasandra Hardy and family. - Posted by: Kasandra (Friend of his daughter ) on: Jan 05, 2019

I had the honour of working with and learning from Dave for the past 14 years. Initially we often butted heads, but we worked things out and I loved being out in the van with him. He saw the good in everyone and truly wanted to help people help themselves. The jokes, the music and local history stories always flowed in the van, making the shifts fly by. I will truly miss him. - Posted by: Wayne 8nkster (Co-worker) on: Jan 05, 2019

My heart ached when I heard of Dave’s passing. He and I spent many evenings working together and it was never a dull moment. Dave was compassionate, dedicated and had a heart of gold with a soul that never stopped giving. He touched many peoples lives and will never be forgotten. I offer condolences to all of his family, especially his daughter Becca. I have not met her, but feel like I know her because she was the light of her Father's life and he constantly spoke of her. Rest In Peace David. You will be missed. - Posted by: Michelle Monkman (Former Colleague) on: Jan 05, 2019

My deepest condolences to the Carriere family. I had the pleasure of working with Dave for over a decade in the Street Connections van. His kindness & jokes are already missed. He taught me more history lessons than I ever learned in school, made several CDs (Dave's faves) that we would listen to over and over, and was an amazing storyteller. The world is a better place because of Dave. Rest easy buddy. - Posted by: Jenny Eaglesham (Co-worker/friend ) on: Jan 05, 2019

Dave consistently did the best he could. He really cared about the people he served. He was reliable, honest and hard-working. Dave had an open and generous mind and heart. Everyone that spent time with him had the opportunity to learn what can only be learned through experience and generosity of spirit. I was privileged to work with David for many, many years. He will be missed. The public service is poorer for his absence. - Posted by: Horst Backe (Co-worker for many years) on: Jan 05, 2019

Dave was a compassionate person who was passionate about his beliefs and our clients. I will always remember his efforts to brighten up their lives by organizing Christmas stockings and The Birthday Club. These were tangible displays of his efforts on special occasions but he cared deeply about these people everyday. He will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Elizabeth Arychuk (colleague) on: Jan 05, 2019

I am so very sorry for your loss. I enjoyed working alongside Dave in the van- welcomed his wisdom with our clients, and the many history lessons he gave me while driving around! This past Christmas season felt so different not having ‘Santa Davey’ give his daily reports about the delivery of the stockings - a kindness I understand he began- and our clients loved... He was quite thrilled to discover a shared passion for garage sales- and we would sometimes do a quick stop if time permitted in the early evening- he was always on the lookout for sleeping bags for someone who might find themselves in need of warmth- He paid for pounds and pounds of suckers for our clients over the years-believing- and rightfully so- of the benefits of this treat...there were many a sad face when I worked in the van with other colleagues and did not have any suckers on hand to distribute!!! He was a kind and generous man- he was thoughtful and well loved by the folks he served- so many asking about him during his illness and absence- They will miss him, as will I...
