DOREEN GILBERTSON It is with deep sadness the family announces the passing of Doreen Gilbertson on January 2, 2019. Remaining to cherish her memories are son, Jerrold (Michele) Gilbertson, son, T.S.; daughter Tracey Solylo; daughter-in-law, Veronica Gilbertson; grandchildren, Cheris (Brandon), Bretton (Michah), Kennedy, Cole, Ryland; and her brother, Boris (Jan) Luhowy. Mom was born in Gypsumville, MB. She grew up with her parents, Steve and Pearl Luhowy and with her brothers Jerrold and Boris. Doreen raised her three children in Armstrong, BC, until 1976 when she moved to Winnipeg, MB, as a single parent, to be closer to her parents. She was proficient and appreciated by the doctors for whom she had worked as a receptionist and the patients who respected and highly regarded her. Mom, Nana, will be remembered for her wry wit and sense of humour by all who knew her. She was an avid fan of the Jets and Bombers right up until her passing. As one of Jehovah's Witnesses, Doreen had great faith in the Bible's promise of a paradise earth, where the pain, suffering and death experienced now will be a thing of the past (Rev. 21:4). A Service of Remembrance will be held on Monday, January 21, 2019, at 7:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 937 Gateway Road. A private family interment will take place. Special thanks to the caregivers at Kildonan Personal Care Home for their care and compassion.

Condolences & Memories (9 entries)

  • As I remember, my mother, I am reminded of the deep importance of family connections, and the unique ways we honor those we’ve lost. While her son, my brother, Terry Steven Brent Gilbertson, chose a different path during this time, he will always be a part of her family legacy. I miss my mom every day and cherish the moments shared with all who celebrated her life alongside us. She truly valued all the love and memories we created together. - Posted by: Tracey Solylo (Daughter) on: Apr 05, 2025

  • Belated condolences to Jerrold, Steven and Tracy - so many great memories of time spent together in our Armstrong days - I’ll never forget your mom’s beautiful mischievous smile and sense of humour - together with you all we look forward to better days ahead and the amazing reunion to come. - Posted by: Heidi Miller (nee Cooper) (Family Friend) on: Jan 21, 2022

  • Many fond memories of Doreen. For years, after school, Jerrold, myself and Steve spent time playing sports at the community centre behind his home, and afterwards visiting Doreen and Tracy, playing cards, watching tv sports then going to Alysia’s restaurant. Doreen was like a second mom, always a friendly, kind host. As I think back, she was a wonderful example of a single mother and provider for her children. Loyal actions are so rare but to Doreen they came naturally. The scriptures talk about Jehovah’s Loyal ones and that was Doreen. Safely in Jehovah’s memory and looking forward to Jehovah’s kingdom + resurrection. My sincere condolences to the Gilbertson family. Ray Parsons - Posted by: Ray Parsons (Friend) on: Jan 21, 2019

  • MY dear dear friend Doreen, we had known each other for a long time, laughed together cried together, had a lot of fun times together. I will miss you terribly, but knowing we will see you very soon (John 5:28) the love for serving Jehovah was so strong in Doreen and now you are in Jehovah's memory. Deepest condolences, prayers and love to Tracey, Jerrold and all the family. This is not goodbye, it is see you later. - Posted by: Pat (Marks) Grandbois (Friend) on: Jan 17, 2019

  • Mankind's enemy 'death' (1 Cor 15:26) has been taking our loved ones for eons. It is so good to know, at times like this Jerrold, that soon all of this will be undone. Praying you and your family find 'comfort' in this fact, and strength to maintain your joy in serving our wonderful God Jehovah. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your's at this time. • She was alright and a funny little lady, always comparing the boys, always came for that cup of tea, and her pets where her top priority in her life. She was always seen in the yard doing flowers etc. My condolences to her children whom where the most important in her life. I remember she told me stories so many times. I remember taking her a Christmas gift not knowing her religion she declined because it had wrapping paper on it. So I tore the wrapping paper off and gave her the can of cookies, she was bright , brilliant and loving. My boys enjoyed her as much as we did R.I.P. my dear xoxo - Posted by: Daniel andrushko (Family friend , Doreens neighbor of 20 plus years on Inkster ) on: Jan 13, 2019
