DORIS ORTON (nee YURKIW) (KAFKA) January 8, 1920 - January 7, 2019 In the sunset of a full and happy life, Doris passed away peacefully one day before her 99th birthday. Doris was an unforgettable personality, and her light, love and laughter filled the rooms of those blessed to know her. An eternal optimist, Doris demonstrated positivity and inspired others through her spirit, passion and pursuit of the joy in each day. She spoke her mind (even when it got her in trouble!), and her brazen wit and ready laugh touched the lives of those around her. Never one to complain and fiercely independent to the end, her strength and determination in living her best life - on her own terms - inspired many and remains a great gift to us all. Doris was predeceased by her husband Edward Kafka, son Brian, son David, and husband Herb Orton. Doris is survived by daughter Bernice Hawton (Jay), Bernice's daughter Laura Steidl (Greg) and their daughters, Jessica and Sarah; her daughter, Judy Kuffner (Al), their son Ryan (Nuala), and their children, Fiona and Claire. She is also survived by sisters, Millie, Judy, Ollie and Liz and their families, four granddaughters, Ronda, Lisa, Belinda, Vanessa and their families, step-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Doris received loving care from many dedicated homecare workers, staff and friends at Catherine Place and the family would like to thank them all for adding to the fullness of Doris' later years. The family also thanks the staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their excellent care. Cremation has taken place and a celebration to honour Doris' life will be held on Monday, January 14 at 2:00 p.m. at Windsor Park United Church - 1062 Autumnwood Drive with Rev. Patrick Woodbeck officiating. Interment to follow in Beausejour Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Doris may be made to Windsor Park United Church or a charity of your choice. Memories account for what was, and form the path to what is. How we react to those memories forms the path to the future. Thank you for so many good memories. Love, your family.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • The Wenzoski family from Golden send their deepest sympathies to Doris' families. Doris lived a long and impactful life, touching all of us with her spirit, energy and love. She flew to Malta to visit us in 1969 or 1970, and gave us many fond memories of our time there with her. In Golden, she and Mom filled the kitchen and freezer with pirogies and laughter. Doris will be missed and fondly remembered. - Posted by: the Wenzoski family (Friends of Doris) on: Jan 22, 2019

  • To Bernice, Judy and family, our deepest condolences are with all of you at this time. Lots of happy memories, and our last one was singing carols with her with the group from Windsor Park Church. She looked and sounded as if she was having a wonderful time. - Posted by: Betty & Grant Rodgers (Friend) on: Jan 13, 2019
