Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIRENE CHOMIAK (nee NAZAR) Peacefully on January 9, 2019, with family by her side, Irene was reunited with her beloved Donald, who passed before her on January 5, 1975. Irene is survived by daughter Carolyn, husband Ken Nazeravich, daughters, Carleigh and Andrea, son Michael Chomiak, wife Audrey, daughter Jillian, son Christopher and partner Danielle. She is also survived by her sister Sylvia, brother-in-law Adam Romanchuk, niece Susan and husband Jason Drysdale, nephew Danny Romanchuk, wife Amy, brother Eric Nazar, wife Grace, and numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Winnipeg on April 3, 1935 to Katherine and Nicholas Nazar her roots were deep in the North End, living first on Magnus Avenue and then Pritchard while attending neighbourhood schools. Mom was a proud graduate of TEC-VOC high school where she sang in musicals and was a Hornet cheerleader. Soon after, she met Don and they were married at Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Parish on November 27, 1956 and resided on Luxton Avenue. Irene had several passions; clothing design, sewing, singing and her Ukrainian heritage. She made many clothes for herself and her children, always with an eye for elegance. Irene was a classically trained soprano and was renowned for her beautiful voice. She praised God by singing liturgy, at weddings and was a member of the O. Koshetz choir for many years. While in the Millennium choir, she sang for Pope John Paul II at St.'s Vladimir and Olga Cathedral. Her favourite performance was always for Don and the kids, given whenever he asked her to sing. After having children in Winnipeg, Don and Irene moved the family to Toronto and later Barrie, Ontario. After 21 years of marriage Don passed. Irene and the children returned to Winnipeg and family. Irene was quickly invited to resume singing with Koshetz, which brought her great joy. She shared her love of singing with her daughter Carolyn and they had many wonderful adventures together as a result. Michael faithfully supported her passion and attended many concerts. The choir facilitated her love of travel and she performed in Soviet Ukraine, Argentina, Brazil, Europe, and cities across North America. Mom also travelled to Poland, England and Israel. She spent many winters in Phoenix with friends. Irene missed Don terribly and worked hard to raise her children as a single parent. She counted on the support of her parents but especially Sylvia and Adam who give generously of their love. Mom raised her children with a deep sense of commitment to each other and family. She adored her grandchildren and pictures of them filled her home, proud of their accomplishments in both sport and culture. Irene was also a voracious reader and loved to share articles as the content just might help you! Great thanks to the staff at Holy Family Nursing Home, St. Mary's ward, who cherished Mom. Your genuine kindness and love meant the world to her and to us. To those of you who held her in a special place in your hearts, we cannot thank you enough. Special thanks to Dr. Taras and Dr. Andrea Babick for so many years of dedicated care and friendship to Mom. Memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 17, 2019 at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. Forever missed, walk in the sunshine Mom. Sing a new song unto the Lord. "Memory Eternal - Vichnaya Pam'Yat In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Holy Family Home c/o Lubov SSMI Foundation. Michael & Carolyn ..... Saddened to learn of Irene's passing but know she lead a full life with you and your families and hope you find solace in the fact you had that time with her. Mom passed in July/18 so feel we can share some empathy, as we deal with the passage of time and loved ones. Realize it's been way too long to have reached out to you both, but hope you may find it in your hearts to rekindle contact. Love to you Ken Chomiak - Posted by: ken & nancy chomiak (nephew) on: Jan 15, 2019

I will miss Irene's larger than life personality, her beautiful smile and her infectious laughter. She always had such fun and amazing stories to share, but most of all, Irene was so very proud of her family and their accomplishments. When I would pass by her room and ask, " How are you doing, Irene?" She would simply respond, " I'm doing great." To Irene's family, I extend my deepest and sincerest condolences. God Bless You. - Posted by: Tina Gawron (Eve. Nurse St. Mary's Unit) on: Jan 14, 2019
