GISLI HAROLDUR EASTMAN It is with deepest sadness we announce the passing of our beloved dad Gisli Haroldur Eastman on Monday, January 14, 2019. Gisli was born December 18, 1930 to Halli and Una Eastman in Riverton, MB. Dad is predeceased by our loving mother Deanna, brothers, (Dori, Herbert), sisters (Gudlaug, Anna, Carol). Dad is survived by daughter Sharon (Ken) Goodwin and their children, Derrik (fiancee Sabina), Blair, Judee; son Guyland (Kimberly) Eastman and their children, Sharly (fiancee Nathan and great-granddaughter Emma), Kelsey; and son Garth (Kim) Eastman and their children, Skyler and Triston. He is also survived by his brother Halli, Robert, and sister Olive, plus many nieces and nephews. Dad had completed a grade eight education, then left home and started working at the age of 14. Dad worked many years as a farmhand/ rancher in Manitoba and Saskatchewan (where he participated in the Rodeo circuit as a Saddle Bronc competitor), commercial fisherman and diamond drilling up north. The best thing that ever happened in Dad's life is when he met our mother at a dance in Riverton; it was love at first sight. They married April 8, 1961 and made their home in East St. Paul. Dad worked many jobs to support his family, eventually working over 25 years with Canada Packers. Dad loved sports; he coached hockey for several years and volunteered to build the East St. Paul community sport venues. He enjoyed the Winnipeg Blue Bombers with our Mom and was a 25-year season ticket holder. Dad was truly known for his singing and guitar playing and was asked to perform for family and friends at many occasions. He sang for the President of Iceland and at several Riverton area Hootenanny events. Dad was known as a caring, thoughtful, hard-working man and will be missed by all that knew him. Dad you will forever hold a special place in our hearts. Thank you for everything you did for us and for your love. We are, and always will be so proud of you. May you rest peacefully beside Mom. Life will never be the same without you. A private family interment has taken place on Thursday January 17, 2019 at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Although Dad would appreciate the condolences from extended family and friends, at his request there will be no formal funeral Góda nótt, "Always A COWBOY".

  • Though I had known of Gisla,s passing for a while now. I find it necessary to comment on the man most knew as the Cowboy from East St Paul. Gisla and my father Harvey Renaud are 1st cousins from Riverton , and I suppose I am his 2nd cousin. I had met up with him and his son Garth on many occasions at the Winnipeg Blue Bombers games. I always gave him a wave from a couple sections over and a kind wave was returned by both , I will Miss that. I work for the Manitoba Telephone System and now bell mts. I had popped into see Gisla a few times at his place on Hoddinott Rd, in East St Paul, in the past few years prior to him leaving us. I always felt such a wonderful feeling that I did after leaving and the conversations we had. He always had such kind words for my late father and mother Sylvia, and that was always appreciated. Dad and he sung together often in younger years and often Dad would comment on his love for his dear cousin Gisla. I guess I just wanted to say that if you walk through life in. "his way of doing it" ....your doing ok ! God bless you Gisla for the times we shared chatting you were a wonderful man ! Darryl Renaud - Posted by: Darryl Renaud (relative ) on: Dec 03, 2020

  • I realize that this is late but I just realized that your father had passed away. My heart is heavy. Your dad has been a customer of ours for as long as I can recall and we always looked forward to his visits. He was always so positive and friendly. Always had something good to say. Just before he stopped coming in we would see him a few times a day. He was a sweet man and he has been missed. Our condolences to his family. • Sorry for your families loss. The Cowboy as all the staff fondly referred to him was such a pleasure to serve. He would come into the restaurant regularly and was always happy and would make our day. He will be missed by all of us. Gisli was a favourite cousin and friend to me. I am going to miss my visits with Gisli. When I was young, I spent a lot of time and summers at the Eastman farm in Howardville. • I have been neighbors with Gil for the past 4 years. He would come to visit any time I was outside with my dog Ozzy. We would talk about world events and he always ended the conversation with comments of his love for his wife Deanna. Gil would often play catch with Ozzy and I know they both loved the interaction with each other. He was a kind and caring individual who will be greatly missed. My deepest condolences to his family. - Posted by: Barry Poersch (Neighbors ) on: Jan 20, 2019

  • Sharon and family- I’m so sorry to hear about your dad’s passing. It was just a few months ago that we were together, chatting about him. It’s been a long time since I had seen him, but I remember him and your mom as very kind people, always welcoming your friends into their home. My thoughts are with your family at this time. - Posted by: Dale Boroski (Friend) on: Jan 19, 2019

  • My Dad was John K Erickson from Riverton (passed in 2005). My Dad was with me at one of my sons hockey games many years ago and we ran into Gisli there also watching hockey. They were so happy to see each other and when we left my Dad told me stories from when they were young. RIP - Posted by: Geraldine Selkirk nee Erickson (Acquaintance ) on: Jan 19, 2019
