MARIE MARGUERITE JEANNE (MARGARET) SLATER It is with great sorrow that we the family announce the passing of our dear mother. Peacefully on Saturday, January 19, 2019, at Red River Place in Selkirk, MB, Mom was called home to be with her Lord, at the age of 76 years. On January 10, 1943, Margaret was born in St. Laurent, MB. She started working in the service industry before she became a full-time mother. Margaret worked at Stonewall Hospital until her retirement in 1999, as the head of housekeeping. Mom was a hard worker, meticulous in her vocation. Her attention to detail was exceptional. In her earlier life with Dad, they enjoyed many activities together such as bowling or playing cards with friends and travelling and camping with family. After her retirement and loss of her beloved husband, Mom volunteered to drive clients to various appointments. She also enjoyed line dancing and joined the "Red Hatters" in Stonewall. Margaret was very dedicated to God and Lutheran Church of the Cross. Over the years, Mom volunteered and served on the Altar Guild/Greeter, as well as going to church conferences. Left to cherish Margaret's memory are children, Howard (Brenda), Kathy (Keith), Jeffrey; three grandchildren, Joshua (Brittany), Aaron, Evan; great-grandchild, Avery; sisters, Irene, Mathilda, Grace; and brother Edmond; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband Merril, in 1999; mother Rose; father Celestine; sisters, Edna, Pauline and Jeannine. For those who wish, viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba Avenue. Margaret's funeral service will be held on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., in Lutheran Church of the Cross, 560 Arlington Street. Our sincerest thank you to the staff at Red River Place for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Paraplegic Society or a charity of one's choice. Condolences may be sent to www.wojciksfuneralchapel.com

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • We first met Marg while she and Kay worked at Rosewood Lodge in Stonewall. Marg made the connection that she was related to Noel through their great-grandfather Charles Leclerc as cousins. It has been through her that more of the family have become known to us. She loved her family especially her kids and late husband and loved and took so much pride in her work. Thanks so much for opening the door to your family and making the connection. Love, Noel (cousin) and Kay Blais - Posted by: Noel & Kay Blais (Cousin) on: Jan 24, 2019

  • Howard(Brenda), Kathy(Keith), Jeffery, and all the family I am so sorry to hear of your Moms passing. I know her life as she knew it was a struggle in the last years. May you all have comfort in knowing that she is not struggling anymore, and that she loved everyone in the family passionately. She will be missed. Love and hugs to all, Carol. - Posted by: Carol L.
