I met Kevin while treeplanting in northern Ontario in the early 90s. He stood out as a "man for others": kind, thoughtful, and very good in the woods, too. It was a difficult time in my life. I struggled with addictions and mental health issues. But Kevin and his family were an oasis of wholesomeness. He extended an invitation for me to room with his family when I needed a place to stay. He offered support and encouragement. Some years later I found my way to a sober life. Kevin and the rest of the Barkman family helped keep this prodigal from becoming too prodigal. I offer my condolences to Kevin's whole family—Ken, Karen, and Kristen—and especially his daughters. Though I never met his daughters, I'd want them to know that even as a young man Kevin was selfless and generous. - Posted by: Todd Schaus (Friend) on: Dec 09, 2020

I have been a friend of Kevin's since grade 10. It is hard to decide where to even begin to descibe the positive effects he has had on my life, the fun we had and the challenges we faced. Even though our friendship diverged as we became older, I thought of him frequently. I loved him like a brother and will always love him. Thank you Kevin for your energy, enthusiasm, your wisdom, knowledge and most of all your friendship. - Posted by: Darren (Friend) on: Jan 24, 2019
