MARGUERITE EDITH DONALDSON August 6, 1937 - January 3, 2019 Died peacefully, at home, January 3, 2019, in her 82nd year. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba daughter of Gordon Donaldson and Gladys (Gee) Donaldson. Marguerite was predeceased by her brothers, Bob and Fred Donaldson, and her sister Marilyn Smith. She will be sadly missed by her surviving sister Linda, sisters-in-law, Daphne and Avril, nieces, nephews and a wealth of friends. Marguerite loved Winnipeg and often called it the best-kept secret in Canada. She did take every opportunity to travel and explore the world, developing a wide network of friends throughout her life. Her first adventure came after graduating from the University of Winnipeg when she and childhood friend Marilyn M. explored Europe, hitchhiking much of the way, and sending home fanciful stories from Sherwood Forest. Her last expedition was to meet with Pat and Murray D. in India. She often described one of her favourite experiences where she rounded a corner and was greeted by a street brimming with peacocks and pigs. After a long career with the government, health concerns forced Marguerite to retire. She continued to pursue her lifelong interest in photography, and was an avid collector of works by Tony Tascona, and other local artists. A nature lover, Marguerite was a familiar fixture on McMillan Avenue, where she could often be seen scooping lost ladybugs from her birdbath, watering her flourishing ferns or relaxing under the opportunistic elm tree that grew on her front lawn. The family would like to thank all of the homecare workers who made it possible for Marguerite to continue to enjoy life in her home. We are planning a celebration of Marguerite's life at the beginning of August. Donations can be made in Marguerite's name to the SPCA or a charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Oh Marg - how can we ever forget you and Sandi walking the neighbourhood? Perhaps one or 2 feline friends following you? The times you helped lePooh cat stay at home while I was off at the lake....and the mystery of just how many cats you have taken in and loved over the years? ‘How many do you see?’ She would ask with a grin.... Fond memories, adieu - Posted by: Cathy Murray (neighbour and fellow cat lover) on: Jan 26, 2019

  • Marguerite was one of a kind. Never to be forgotten. - Posted by: Valerie Alderson (Homecare ) on: Jan 26, 2019
