LORNE A. WOLCH Lorne Wolch passed away in Winnipeg on January 19, 2019 at the age of 91. He was the husband of the late Diane Wolch; father, with his first wife Myra Wolch, of Sara (Julian Zuckerbrot), Mark (Sandra), and Jonathan; and grandfather of Ari Zuckerbrot and Jackson Wolch. He is also remembered by Diane's children, Susan and Bruce Graham and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Dinah Wolch; by his sisters, Beatrice "Betty" Akman ("Lefty") and Hattie; and by his brothers, Russell (Frances) and Herbert. A graveside service was held at Shaarey Zedek Cemetery on January 22. An accomplished musician, Lorne played drums as a young man with dance bands at the legendary Skinner's Lockport. He had a special love for the music of Frank Sinatra, Lena Horne, Peggy Lee, Gene Krupa, and the Barry Sisters. He was also a dedicated tennis player, cottager and boater. Lorne had a long and successful career as an optometrist in Winnipeg and as President of Benson-Law Opticians Ltd. He was also a long-time member of the Manitoba Arts Council and served as president of the Manitoba region of the Dominion Drama Festival. In retirement, he and Diane lived for a number of years in Victoria, BC, where they were known for their boating trips and Canada Day parties. Lorne's family would like to thank Nurse Corinna Heieie and the rest of the staff at the Saul and Claribel Simkin Centre in Winnipeg. Special thanks also to his caregivers - Fe Yap, Victor Magana, Lorenza del Rosario, Kathy Alejo, Keith Jacobo, Mary Ann Lucero and Wilma Caseria - for their devoted care during his final years. Any donations people wish to make in memory of Lorne Wolch should be directed to the charity of their choice.

I was saddened to hear of Lorne‘s passing. Growing up I walked by his office on the way to school. When I decided to take optometry, Lorne was a mentor and we consulted often when I opened my office in TRANSCONA. When he retired to the Shaftsbury, I would see him often and we’d have a good shmooz. My condolences to the family. - Posted by: Bruce Rosner (Optometrist) on: Jan 30, 2019
