She was born on April 7, 1926 in Emerson, MB to William and Dorothy Hirschfeldt. Predeceased by her husband Gordon in 2002, daughter Judi McClain in 2012, her parents, siblings, Fred, Ted, Lydia Minken and Emily O'Neil. She is survived by her brother Rienhold, daughters, Karen (Doug) Cook and April (Greg) Welter and son Richard; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
