Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • When I think of Mr. Hanke, I think of growing up in Neepawa and of NACI. So lucky to have had him in my life and for him to be influencing and guiding those young people around him. I spent many days at he and Ruth’s house playing with Al when we were small and precocious. One of my first hockey and baseball coaches. Just an extremely awesome gentleman. • Having spent 22 years going to school and university, Mr. Hanke stands alone as one of my most memorable teachers. Not only as a teacher, he was inspirational as a coach and community leader. Because of him, the small town of Eden had competitive teams in hockey, baseball, curling, and football at the high school and middle school levels. He spent countless hours on weekends and evenings travelling with us to various sporting activities. Somehow, he always found sponsors to supply us with uniforms. He was always encouraging and never showed any disappointment with us either as athletes or as students. Although we didn't know we were quite poor by today's standards, he helped enable the growing up in a small community to be a very enjoyable experience that I still appreciate to this day. - Posted by: Former student () on: Feb 07, 2019
