Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD (DON) KIRNER November 1, 1959 - February 13, 2019 Suddenly but peacefully, Don Kirner lost his battle with cancer at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre. Left to mourn his passing is loving wife of 40 years, Liz. He was the dedicated father of Christina (Rolan), Ken, Cheyenne and Brendan; grandfather of Andrew, Kimberlee, Ashley, Irene, Daniel and Eileen. Don is survived by his brothers, Tom (Leanne) and Gord (Cathy) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Eric and Mary Kirner; brothers, Jim and Karl as well as his sister Wendy. Don grew up in the Mapleton area. At the age of 19 his plan was to move to Alberta but met the love of his life in Saskatoon and resided there for the next 10 years. Packing up his family he returned to Mapleton area and stayed there for the rest of his days. He pursued a few careers until he found his passion, truck driving where he travelled extensively throughout Canada and USA often with the company of his wife. He was well educated in world events and politics. He loved to school you in politics and have heated discussions. He enjoyed reading, listening to his blogs, the cottage in Hecla, barbequing and he especially loved having fun in the backyard pool with his grandkids, family and friends. He will be missed. The day Don left he took a piece of my heart. Until we meet again, I love you. The family would like to say a big thank you to HSC A5 Stepdown and Selkirk Hospital, Palliative Unit for the care and compassion. As per Don's wishes, a private family viewing will be held with cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Condolences, pictures and videos can be left on his tribute wall at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
