I was so shocked to hear of this news. I remember Tyler as having a quiet warmth about him. One time in particular that sticks out in my mind was late-afternoon one summer, it must have been about 15 years ago -- my cousin Greg and I were relaxing on our deck and suddenly heard a woman screaming out in the bay. We looked down in horror to see that she'd been ejected from her boat while a toddler was still inside the boat, which was doing tight doughnuts with the throttle wide open. We raced into our boat and arrived on the scene at the same time that Tyler arrived from the island in his boat. As we were trying to figure out how to stop the errant boat with the panicked child inside, Tyler pulled up close, studying the timing of the circles and the churning water & wake, and at just the right moment JUMPED into the swirling boat, knocking himself in the process, but killing the throttle and averting a potential disaster. I'll never forget that day and his brave move. He may be gone, but he won't be forgotten. - Posted by: Graeme MacDonald & family (Friend) on: Feb 27, 2019

Garth, Judith & family: On behalf of the Oliver family, we would like to extend our deepest sympathy. I remember babysitting for Tyler, he had a quick smile and faster laugh. We played street hockey in the garage, and he did not waste any time getting the puck by me and showing me who was the boss. I was recruited by Garth for babysitting duties, due to him calling in a favor. "Hey Brad, remember when I gave you that good deal on the couch? Well, it's time to pay up!" May many memories of Tyler bring you comfort. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Brad, Shirley, and Riley Oliver - Posted by: Brad Oliver (relative) on: Feb 26, 2019

Garth, Harrison, and family, I met Tyler in front of your family home this past fall while walking to assist my daughter and her fellow students do some raking for school fundraising. Tyler was raking your property. We chatted at that time and again later in the day when Tyler walked down to a nearby property where we were raking. He was easy to speak with. I know we shared some laughs together. I appreciated his sense of humour. And I am deeply saddened to hear this news. May all the memories be a comfort to you now. Life follows death and death follows life, a man who has lived fully is prepared to die at any time. Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live, therefore, suffering, failure, loneliness, sorrow, discouragement, and death will be part of your journey, but the Kingdom of God will conquer all these horrors. No evil can resist grace forever. Life and death are one thread, the same line viewed from different sides. My deepest sympathy to Ms. and Mr. Steek and all the family. To the Steek, Miller and McAngus families and Tyler’s amazing group of friends; Please accept our most sincere condolences for the devastating loss of your son, uncle, cousin and friend. We are also devastated. The world was a better place with Ty around. He was full of life and adventure. His legendary presence will be reflected upon in the future of that of a king. He was able to enrich so many lives over his time on earth and I know he will continue that legacy in heaven. I will forever remember his love and care of Bruno and my dog Pixie, his passion for cooking, his quick wit and sense of humour, his love for the outdoors but most importantly his absolute love and concern for everyone in his life. He helped me so much as a friend and was also more than willing to lend a hand around my house with his only prerogative being kindness. I remember one day years ago walking the dogs down the river by my place in Wolseley. The sun was setting, the snow was crisp, the air was quiet and I looked over at Ty in his famous sheepskin coat soaking in every moment of the little bit of peace, outdoors and quiet. I will forever remember thinking that he was in his element. I will remember Ty on that evening forever in my mind. Our hearts break for you and please know how much Ty appreciated you in his life because he often talked of how wonderful his family and friends were.
