RONALD KEITH BOYD July 22, 1929 - LaRiviere, Manitoba February 13, 2019 - Calgary, Alberta Ron, beloved husband of Helga Boyd (Erickson) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at the age of 89 years. Ron was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He was a devoted family man. He loved get-togethers with family and friends. Often, he was the life of the party or celebration, encouraging laughter and love. He dedicated 35 years as an employee with Manitoba Hydro, starting as a linesman and working his way up to Safety Director for the entire corporation for his final few years of employment there. He loved his work and was proud of his accomplishments. He enjoyed nature: trapping, fishing and hunting in his younger years. Later in life, he manifested his love and respect for nature through his wood carvings, which brought him particular joy in retirement. He faced many health challenges in his life, most related to the polio virus he contracted at age 24. But his remarkable strength and resilience allowed him to live his life on his own terms, always with joy, always with love. He was a spiritual man, demonstrated in his profound faith and love for God and steadfast love for his family. He showed his love through small acts of kindness, large acts of sacrifice and fierce devotion. He valued relationships, kindness, generosity, hard work and education. Ron is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Helga; daughters, Joan Thomas (Nelson) of San Diego, CA, Gwen Roberts (Bruce) of Calgary, AB and Colleen Irving (Kim) of Edmonton, AB; grandchildren, Jeff Thomas (Shannon) of San Diego, CA, Jill Aaker (Chris) of San Diego, CA, Megan Thomas (Bryan) of Salt Lake City UT, Brett Roberts (Branika) of Calgary, AB, Erica Roberts of Calgary, AB, Kristina Roberts of Calgary, AB, Jon Irving (Silvia) of Edmonton, AB and Lauren Irving of Edmonton, AB; great-grandchildren, Emily and Hudson Aaker of San Diego, CA, Cayden Neimoyer of Salt Lake City, Utah and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Ron was predeceased by his brother Arn Boyd; his parents, Keith and Olive Boyd. Funeral services will be held at All Saints Lutheran Church at 380 Midpark Blvd. SE, Calgary, AB on March 16, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the church. The family would like to thank the wonderful and caring staff at Rockyview General Hospital, palliative team and staff on Unit 83.
