DOUGLAS JOHN MARKS It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our husband and father, Douglas John Marks on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at the age of 59 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 36 years, Toni; children, Christine (Michael Kustra) and Andrew (Jenny); granddaughter Allison; his father Robert; brothers, Scott (Catherine Newcombe) and David; mother-in-law Maria Cotroneo; brothers-in-law, Frank (Pat) and Mimmo; nephews, Frank, Anthony and Justin. He was predeceased by his mother Kathleen. Doug was a passionate, loving, family man who loved to spend time at the lake. He loved sailing, canoeing and sitting around a campfire with his family. Doug was an extremely proud and loving grandfather who enjoyed spending his free time with his granddaughter Allie, his "little sausage." There was not anything he wouldn't do for her in a heartbeat. He would pride himself on his sense of humour and making others laugh. Doug spent over 36 years dedicating his work to the hospitality industry; the majority of his time with FRHI and most recently Accor Hotels. He was proud to be a Winnipegger and loved the Winnipeg Jets. When he was not at the lake, or spending time with family, you could find him curled up on the couch, cuddling with his dog Benji. Doug left a big impression on the hearts of all who met him and he will forever be loved and missed. Mass will be celebrated in his honour on Friday, March 1, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at Mary Mother of the Church Parish, 85 Kirkbridge Dr., Winnipeg, followed by a private family interment. In lieu of flowers, donations in Doug's memory can be made to The Winnipeg Humane Society. E.J. COUTU & CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 204-253-5086 ejcoutu.ca

A few summers ago, my wife and I and our child had the pleasure of spending a long weekend at the Marks’ family cabin at Pelican Lake with Doug, Toni, Christine, Mike and Andrew, and of course their two dogs, Benji and Murphy. It was all the more memorable since this was the weekend when Christine and Mike announced their engagement. It is said that if you want to really get to know somebody and get a good read on their character, go play a round of golf with them. Indeed, while playing a round of golf with Doug and Andrew at the local golf club, honesty and fairness were two qualities Doug exemplified. I came to this realization when Doug politely suggested that I take a drop on the fairway and add a 1-stroke penalty instead of using my ‘’foot wedge’’, as I did, to get out of the woods. Another example of these qualities was displayed whenever Doug had a bad hole involving an inordinate number of strokes, he would stop in the middle of the green – albeit oblivious to the foursome behind us who were patiently waiting to play their approach shots – and, with his right elbow planted in the palm of his left hand and his pointer finger extended so as to identify each shot, he would give me a thorough recap of each stroke. Now, I thought that he was either practicing for an audition as a commentator on the Golf Network or he was intent on showing me that his score was legitimate and that fairness and honesty were very important to him. Methinks the latter explanation says it all when summing up Doug! - Posted by: Reuven Erenberg (Friend) on: Mar 02, 2019
