RICHARD WALTER PANSON
Born: Apr 03, 1941
Date of Passing: Feb 21, 2019
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRICHARD WALTER PANSON With great sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Richard Walter Panson on February 21, 2019. All that knew him, were touched by his kindness, modesty, selflessness, integrity and intellect. As a young man, Richard developed a passion for sport, that remained with him throughout his life. Whether it was losing his teeth while playing with the likes of Rocket Richard at a Canadiens' training camp, or taking in a game on TV, he simply could not get enough. Professionally, he earned a Bachelor of Science Pre-Medicine, a Bachelor of Arts, as well as a Bachelor's and Master’s of Social Work. He spent his career improving his community and specifically the lives of vulnerable children and families. Richard always thought of others before himself and modeled, to his family and community, a loving and caring selflessness based on a deep-seated belief in honesty and fairness. But, most of all, he was an unmatched husband, father and grandfather. He will be remembered by his wife Judith; his children, Jamie (Cathy) and Christian (Cindy), and his grandchildren, Brett, Dustyn, and Rhys. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 9, at 11:00 a.m. at Little Britain United Church, 5879 Highway 9, Lockport, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Judith and family, our condolences to you and yours. As a new hire with Child and Family Service -Interlake Region. Richard was my first supervisor and mentor. Richard supervised his staff with humour and generosity. His leadership throughout his tenure in the Interlake allowed the Region to grow and flourish. I was a just graduated social worker full of enthusiasm for the job but short on confidence. Richard, in conjunction with Jim Renner (my immediate supervisor), was a great boss - he listened carefully to the struggle, helped me try to identify the key pieces and figure out the next steps. Because I could trust him to be there for me he helped free me to grow myself as a social worker. I am so sorry to hear of his passing; it is a great loss to his family and those who had the privilege of knowing him. Sincerely, Kathy Jenson, former employee, Gimli Office, Interlake Region, March 3 2019 - Posted by: Kathy Jenson (Former Employee, Gimli Office, Interlake Region) on: Mar 03, 2019

Rick Panson was my supervisor at CAS of Winnipeg upon my graduation from U of M with a BSW. We were a team comprised of two workers per small office in neighbohood centres scattered throughout the north end. I fondly and gratefully recall Rick’s supportive & easy going supervisory style, his ability to deal with all issues calmly and often adding humour to further ease our stress. We were very fortunate to have had Rick provide us with guidance and leadership in highly stressful positions. With fond memories of Rick, May he Rest In Peace. Condolences to you, his family & friends. Verna Stecy, BSW 1974. - Posted by: Verna Stecy (Professional colleague ) on: Mar 02, 2019

So sorry to hear of Richard’s passing and my condolences go out to all of his family. My contact with Richard goes back to our hockey playing days in minor hockey, junior hockey and intramural games with the Faculty of Social Work at the U of Manitoba. He was a gifted player and owned the face off circle. Richard was also a valued colleague in child and family services for many years. He will be missed but always remembered fondly. We are out of town but have Richard and his family in our thoughts. - Posted by: Bruce unfried (Friend, linemate and colleague) on: Mar 02, 2019

Judith and family our sincere condolences on the passing of Richard. Unfortunately we are out of the country and will not be able to attend the service for Richard. I first met Rick at a conference and when I learned he lived in St. Andrews I asked if he would be interested in working for Interlake Region. He gave it a lot of thought and eventually joined our management team. He was a great asset to the Region, a valued co-worker and a fine man. He will be missed.
