ELVIRA LETKEMAN (THIESSEN) October 12, 1917 - February 28, 2019 It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Elvira Letkeman, of Winnipeg, Manitoba. She died peacefully, with her family by her side, in Winnipeg on February 28, 2019 at the age of 101. Born October 12, 1917 in Russia to parents, Margaretha and Jacob Thiessen, she was the first of six children. Elvira was predeceased by husband David Letkeman and son Richard, stepdaughter Vera, four siblings and three grandchildren. She is survived by her 10 children, Kenneth, Margaret, John, Dorothea, Robert, Linda, Janet, Laurie, Daniel and Sharon, her sister Marina, 25 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. Elvira moved with her family from Russia to Friedensfeld, Manitoba in 1926, married David Letkeman in 1939 in Steinbach, Manitoba, later moved to Winnipeg, and back to Steinbach. She gave birth to 11 children and she devoted her life to nurturing her children, spreading the word of God, inspiring others to follow Christ and helping those in need. Elvira was very interested in oil painting and passionate about music...she had a beautiful voice and could often be heard playing the piano and singing hymns all during her life, right up to her final years. Elvira touched the hearts of so many people and will be sorrowfully missed by all. Funeral services to be held at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 3. Interment will be at Transcona Cemetery, 5014 Dugald Rd. at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2019.
