OLIVE NOVELLA NEULS September 29, 1925 - March 2, 2019 On Saturday, March 2, 2019 Olive Novella Neuls (nee French) passed away peacefully after a long, full life of 93 years. Olive was predeceased by her husband Robert, and her siblings, Charlie, Bernice and Rolly. She is survived by her son Randy and his wife Margaret, daughter Novella and her husband Tom, grandchildren, Leah, Camille and Christopher, and three great-granddaughters. Olive was an "East Kildonan girl" and spent her life in Winnipeg. She considered herself timid, but she had a strong trailblazing spirit. In early school years she was one of the first girls to take woodworking class and during the Second World War she joined other young women at MacDonald Brothers working on aircraft for the R.C.A.F. In her work life at United Grain Growers she was one of the first women to be trained as a grain inspector. Olive married her brother's best friend, Robert, in 1946 and they built their early home together on Noble Avenue and moved only one time, to Westwood. Their home was a hub of gatherings with family and friends. Olive and Robert forged friendships with neighbours and school chums that lasted their lifetimes. The Anglican Church was integral to their family life and Olive was keenly involved in Alter Guild and craft committees for the Christmas teas. Olive was an artistic soul. Home was filled with her creations and there were many who were fortunate recipients of her beautiful painted china or intricately crafted eggs. The urge to create never deserted her, even in her final days. Olive's final home was Calvary Place Care Home and her family gratefully acknowledges the kind and compassionate care she received.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Olive was my dear auntie and I cherish the memory of the times I spent with her. She and I shared a love of crafts and art so we felt a kinship that was more than being related by blood. I look forward to meeting her again, as we share a faith in the same Lord Jesus. - Posted by: Judy (neice) on: Apr 11, 2019

  • I worked with Olive for awhile at UGG. She was very easy to get along with and always pleasant. She took me under her wing and taught me about grading and showed me all the wholesale places in the exchange district. I was also a lucky recipient of a couple of her decorated eggs! RIP Olive - Posted by: Sandra Gowan (Former co-worker) on: Mar 09, 2019

  • I have known Olive for most of my life. My family lived on Noble Avenue and my mother, Gytha, and Olive became good friends. I'm sure we saw Olive and Rob (and their family) at least once a week and often more than that. After my family moved from Noble Avenue and I moved away to B.C., I saw Olive less frequently but was always happy to see her at Ryckman reunions, or when I took my mother to visit her at her home in Westwood. I have several pieces of Olive's beautiful china painting. Olive was a kind and loving person who helped to mould my character. I have missed her in these past few years. After my mother died, I lost contact with Olive and was unable to visit her or even get in touch. Phone calls and letters were not answered and I tried in vain to get a contact number for Novella or Randy. Please let me know if there will be a service for Olive. Rest in peace, my dear friend. - Posted by: Mary-Lynne (nee Ryckman) Braun (Friend) on: Mar 05, 2019
