RAYMOND JOSEPH KINNEY (SLEEPY) June 18, 1938 - March 4, 2019 It is with great sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of Ray on Monday, March 4, at the Misericordia Health Centre, at the age of 80 years. Ray was predeceased by his wife Jill in 2015. He leaves to mourn his passing, two daughters, Kim (husband Darcy Zeller) and Terri (husband Doug Deamel), three grandchildren, Brandon (Ana), Cameron (Leigh) and Paige (Jonah), one great-granddaughter Violet, and sister-in-law Sherrie Burkitt, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and close friends. Ray was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, moved to Kenora, Ontario, and in 1952 his family settled in Brandon, Manitoba. This is where he met and married Jill and started his family. In 1965 he moved his family to Winnipeg. Ray worked in the automotive industry for many years. In 2001, he began a new career with Aeroguard as a Passenger Screening Guard. This was a job he enjoyed until his retirement. Ray was a proud member of The Order of Elks of Canada from 1974 until his passing. He was recognized for his years of dedicated service in the 1970s as Chairman of Fort Garry Frontier Days. He had a great love for music. You would often find him puttering in the yard, playing his favourite music and entertaining his friends, family and neighbours with life stories. At Ray's request, no formal funeral service will be held. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at the Sturgeon Heights Community Centre, 210 Rita St., Winnipeg from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The family would like to thank the Misericordia Health Care staff, in particular the doctors and nurses on C2 for their care. Thank you also to Dad's close friends, Bill and Jim who spent countless hours by his side in the preceding weeks. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ray's memory to CancerCare Manitoba. God saw you getting tired When a cure was not to be, So He put His arms around you And whispered, "Come with Me." You tried so hard to stay with us, But your fight was all in vain, God took you in His loving arms, And freed you from your pain. You didn't deserve what you went through And so He gave you rest. Heaven's music will be beautiful, 'Cause now He has the best'. We will miss you.

  • To the family Ray will be sadly missed by his former fellow workers in the automotive industry. I also believe that he enjoyed the daily dealership "action" and "challenges". He made many friends along the way. Rest now in peace my friend. Wm Gray Stadium Ford - Posted by: william Gray (Friends) on: Mar 09, 2019
