DONALD GISLASON May 6, 1943 - March 2, 2019 It is with sadness we announce that Donald Gislason lost his battle with cancer on March 2, 2019. He was predeceased by his mother, Elizabeth Gislason and father, Robert Gislason. Don was born and raised in Winnipeg attending Somerset, Hugh John McDonald and Tec Voc schools. He worked for many years until his retirement for the City of Winnipeg Parks Division. Don was a true historian and spent many hours at the Cornish library researching Winnipeg architecture, West End history, and reading the local newspapers. His interest in social justice and civic politics were food for good conversation. Don's enthusiasm for airplanes and antique cars prompted his attendance wherever they were displayed. Don is survived by his cousins and their families. Friends, May Richard and the Balbon family fondly remember Don as a gentleman, thoughtful, and appreciative. Thank you to the doctors and staff at the Health Sciences Centre GD Wing for their care and kindness of Don in his final journey. Should friends or family desire, contributions may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Ave., Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, or a charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place at Kilcollins Cremation Service, 724 Selkirk Ave., Winnipeg and a private ceremony will take place at Brookside Cemetery at a later date. A "celebration of Don's life" will be held at 131 Arden Avenue in Winnipeg on Saturday, March 16, 2019, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
