ADA MAY SWANN July 11, 1937 - March 18, 2019 Our beloved "Auntie Dee Dee", aged 81, unexpectedly passed away while at home on March 18. Ada was predeceased by her older brother Hugh. She followed her mother Margaret into Nursing. Ada retired from her long career as Head Nurse of St. Boniface Hospital's Obstetrics and Gynecology Dept. where she was well respected. Dee Dee will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her sister-in-law June Swann as well as her nieces and nephews, Joyce, Hugh Jr., Richard, Michael, Crystal, Ashley, Matthew, Katelyn, Nick, Rory, Lily, Aiden and Asher. Ada donated her body to the University of Manitoba's Department of Human Anatomy and Cell Science for their after death research. A celebration of Ada's life will be held this summer and the date will be announced in a future newspaper notice. In lieu of flowers, donations to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation or Diabetes Canada would be appreciated.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I just thought about Ada today out of the blue. I am a retired nurse living in Texas. Ada hired me as a ward clerk in the OB clinic at St Boniface Hospital in the late 70s right out of high school. She taught me so much that I went on to a long nursing career mostly in OB/GYN and administration. She put up with me the young ,enthusiastic wanna be nurse. She made me the excellent nurse I was. She was an amazing lady, nurse and friend. Very loved and respectful by all. - Posted by: Laurell Dockall (Friend) on: May 19, 2023

  • Just found out about Ada's passing. I knew Ada way back when we were in Guides plus when Ada, Carolynn, Theresa and myself heading out to Malachi Lake to Myers camp oh what fun we used to have walking the tracks How poor Mrs. Myers put up with us four girls was something. We also had fun in Guides. My thoughts and prayers are with Ada's family she was an amazing person oh that beautiful red hair of hers. Rest in peace - Posted by: Elaine (Dumontier) Lochhead Calgary AB. (Friend from way back) on: Feb 24, 2020

  • My deepest sympathy to June and the Swann family. I have been trying to find out about Ada's status. Today I received my ST. B alumni newsletter reporting her passing. I am a "Transcona girl" now living in California. Ada befriended me when I entered nursing school in 1959 at ST. B. and we remained friends ever since. She was such a wonderful, kind person. Ada was very supportive to me. She will live in my heart. Ada loved her family so very much. She was an excellent nurse specializing in Obstetrics contributing greatly to humanity. Rest in Peace Ada.
