JAMES (JIM) PATRICK MCCOY Peacefully and with grace, James McCoy passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2019, at the age of 84. Jim was a resident of Transcona since 1956 and married to his high school sweetheart, Toni, in 1957. He is survived by his loving wife, Elaine "Toni" McCoy; sons, Kevin, Daniel, and Chris; and two grandchildren, Elysa and Christian. Jim was born in Devlin, ON and grew up on a family dairy farm where he stayed until he left to join the railway. Jim worked in the yards and on trains and became an electrician for CN. He subsequently left to become an industrial electrical instructor at Red River Community College from 1965 till he retired in 1994. Jim's passion for learning continued throughout his life as he acquired his teaching and Master Degree of Education from the University of Manitoba while working at Red River Community College. He was active in the community, acting as a scout leader in the 60s and coaching hockey and soccer for two decades. After retirement, Jim stayed even busier. He and his wife were active members of the Blessed Sacrament Parish, assisting with masses, maintenance and funerals over the years. Jim loved to help with family and community projects where he had the chance to work alongside others and share his electrical knowledge and skills with anyone who needed his help. He also maintained and enjoyed the peacefulness of a cabin on Lake Despair in NW Ontario. Jim and Toni enjoyed travelling and visiting whenever and wherever they had an excuse to go across Canada or abroad. They wished they had even more time to see all there was to offer. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 5, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church, 710 Roanoke Street, Transcona, followed by a gathering at the parish hall. Hockey has been very important in my life, Mr. McCoy was, I believe my first hockey coach - it is so long ago in 1966. I am truly thankful to all of my coaches, anyone who would take the time to coach and develop youngsters has a heart of gold in my books. Beyond that alone, I recall a practice where I was taught an important lesson in discipline. Again, I cannot recall the details that led me to be required to do ten laps on my own while the rest of the team watched on but it must have been deserving. To the McCoy family and my old team mate Danny, I am terribly sorry for your loss. I thought that you should know how important it was for me to have the benefit of Mr. McCoy’s coaching while I was growing my love for hockey in my very early years. Rest in Peace Mr. McCoy, I will always be thankful for your kindness, dedication and generosity… - Posted by: Rob McDonald (Played hockey with Danny, coached by Mr. McCoy) on: Dec 03, 2024

As a past student of Jim at Red River College, I found him to be extremely knowledgable and always expected the best from his students. This expectation resulted in his students to work harder eventually making them better electricians in their career. Thanks Jim RIP W.J.L. - Posted by: Wayne (Former Student) on: Mar 22, 2021

Our deepest sympathies to Toni and family. Jim was a highly respected hockey coach to Shawn in his youth, and both Jim and Toni have been such wonderful neighbours to us for the past 22 years. We enjoyed it when they stopped on their walks to have a chat with us; Jim always had great stories or words of wisdom to share with us and our kids. He will be fondly remembered. - Posted by: Shawn, Donna, Sarah, Tyler & Linnea Greening (Neighbours) on: Apr 01, 2019
