DAVID RALPH CULLEN
He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Linda Revel (Don), Marion, and Barbara; his grandsons, Cullen (Flo) and Jared; and his great-grandsons, Zander and Jaxon; also several nieces, cousins and their families, as well as "fourth daughter" Sandy Michaud.
Dad was born February 6, 1919. He was raised in Fort Rouge, but St. Vital is where he married mum and raised his family.
He started as an apprentice at CN in 1937. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War and returned to the Railway in 1945 to pursue his career as a Carman. After working 42 years at the Transcona Shops he retired. Dad had many interests, including reading a good western and working on projects in his garage. He was an excellent handyman.
In 2017, after 67 years of marriage, dad lost his beloved wife Bernice (nee Riel). He continued to live in their fifty-five plus apartment complex. Dad loved sports all his life, both watching and participating. He gave up curling at age 97, but not before he was awarded the CKY Sports Star of the Week. At age 99 he was still golfing and playing bridge five times a week. For many years he looked after and kept computerized stats for the Thursday night bridge group at the Fort Rouge Leisure Centre. Over the years, mum and dad enjoyed five pin bowling and were avid square dancers. It was here they made many lifelong friendships.
Family was very important to dad, as well as his friends and neighbours. He was a quiet gentle soul, loved by all. On February 6, 2019, dad reached the 100 year milestone. A celebration was held with over 150 family and friends attending this special occasion.
To honour dad's wishes there will be no service. Dad said that he had his Celebration of Life at his 100th birthday party and was happy to be there. A private family interment will take place in the summer.
The family would like to thank Dr. Brian Sharkey and the Palliative Care Nurses that provided great support in helping us care for our Dad.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in dad's memory to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation or a charity of your choice.

Dear Cullen family, We were next door neighbours to your parents on Glen Ave. We remember your mother's resonant voice as her singing resounded through her kitchen window onto our back yard. It was so full of happiness and zest for life. We remember your father as a kind and gentle person; it was fun to work together with him fixing the wire fence between our properties. That fence did not stop either of us talking to each other over that fence. It was a great pleasure getting to know them and Barbara. - Posted by: Henriette and Rudy Schellenberg (Neighbours in the '80') on: Apr 07, 2019

With Deepest Sympathy on the passing of your Father! Although we had only met your father once - at this 100th birthday celebration, it was obvious how much he was loved and respected, and an inspiration to all! It was a privilege and honor to have met him! Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family! - Posted by: Janet (Friends) on: Apr 06, 2019

Dave was an amazing man. A good bridge player who did not lose his knowledge of the game right up to the end. We will miss him. We are so happy he lived to see his hundredth birthday. Last year, we were away again at his birthday. I asked if he had a big celebration. His answer was "That will be next year when I turn 100". His optimism was unstoppable. Bye, Dave. Hope the cards are all in your favour up there. - Posted by: Wilf Felsch, Nola Brown (Bridge friend) on: Mar 31, 2019
