SISTER LILLIAN GABOURY, OSU Very peacefully, on March 30, 2019 at St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 93, Sister Lillian was received into the hands of her loving Lord. Sister Lillian was accompanied at her bedside in spirit by her Ursuline Community: Sr. Joan, Sr. Juliette, Sr. Joice and the constant presence of her kindred friend Sr. Mary. In loving gratitude the Ursuline Community is forever grateful to the Grey Nun Community for their compassionate presence during Sr. Lillian's short illness. Etienne as the one remaining member of the Gaboury family endeared his sister Lillian in her final hours at the bedside. Left to honour her memory is Etienne (Claire) and family members, as well as the Ursuline Sisters of Tildonck. Sister Lillian was predeceased by her parents, Napoleon and Valentine, and her brothers and sisters: Jeanne (Albert), Gerard (Mathilde), Norbert (Marieanne), Juliette (Leo), Gabriel (Ruth), Florence (Maurice), Placid, Antonio and Adrien (Laurette). Lillian received her early education in a Little Red School House - St. Gerard - in the Swan Lake area and her high school at Ste. Marie, Bruxelles, Manitoba where she was taught by the Ursuline sisters. She then went to Teachers College after which she taught for one year before she entered religious life with the Ursuline Sisters. This was followed by some 40 years of challenging but very fruitful and rewarding years in the classroom. The Ursuline Sisters wish to remember Lillian with loving gratitude for her total commitment to God in community, and in the service of God's people during her teaching years in Manitoba. In the spirit of St. Angela and Cornelius Lambertz, Lillian lived in the spirit of simplicity and sincere conviction. "Having confidence and strong faith that God will assist you in everything". -St. Angela Merici. Lillian said that she owed her religious vocation to her mother's deep faith. She was inspired by her mother's sharing "The lives of the Saints" as she was kneading the bread for the family. Lillian was nurtured by the family's togetherness and joy and valued it greatly. Sr. Lillian would like to be forever remembered for her appreciation of the dedicated service of the residents and staff at Residence Despins. Her infectious spirit delighted the hearts of all who came to know Lillian. Viewing will be at 1:00 p.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at 151 Despins Street, St. Boniface. Fr. Art Massey OMI will preside and Fr. J.P.
