(nee STADNYK)
September 29, 1931 - March 30, 2019
On Saturday, March 30, 2019, Mom passed away at the Grace Hospital, at the age of 87 years.
She will be lovingly remembered by her six children, Mitchell (Debbie), Tracy (Steven) Shawcross, Malcolm, Kirsten (Kris) Kubin, Marshall (Karla), Heather (Mark) Potapoff; her beloved grandchildren, Lisa, Erica, Kyle, Dylan, Tyler, Meaghan, Riley, Jesse, Mackenzie, Caleb, Cody; three great-grandchildren, Caleigh, Oliver and Cole; also Tyler and Hailey and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Melvin (Mel) in September 2011.
Jean was born in Olha, Manitoba to parents, Nickolas and Telka Stadnyk. Mom had three brothers, Peter, Matthew and Michael. Mom met and married Mel Eden in December of 1957, where they lived in Erickson, MB. They later moved to Winnipeg, MB in 1966 and resided in Charleswood. She was active in the Charleswood Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Swedish Canadian Home for seniors, and her community.
Mom was an excellent cook and baker; there was always the scent of fresh bread when walking into her home. She loved to dance whenever and wherever the mood struck her. She could always be found tapping her foot or humming a tune. She loved her gardens and took great pride in them.
Mom found tremendous enjoyment with her family, friends and neighbours. She was always available for a visit and you never left empty-handed. She always made sure you went home with something homemade and delicious.
In her words, it was never say "goodbye"
- it was always "see you later".
We will see you later Mom.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the skilled and caring medical professionals on the fifth floor of the Grace Hospital for their care and kindness to Mom.
An immediate family service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mom's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba; the Swedish Canadian Home for seniors, 5419 Roblin Blvd., Winnipeg, MB R3R 0G8; or the Charleswood Legion, 6003 Roblin Blvd., Winnipeg, MB R3R 0G8.

Have known Jean for over 50 years; got to know she, Mel and their kids when I was a teenager; worked for them one summer. LOVED her Ukrainian food, and could she and Mel dance!!! She's happy now, dancing with her favourite guy! Rest in peace dear friend. - Posted by: Trudy Johnson (Long time friend) on: Apr 22, 2019

Our sincere sympathy to all the family. We met and shared music together for many years at the Swedish pavilion, Carol and Donna with dancing, and I played the accordion with the Vasalunders. I also played some of Mel's favorite Swedish music for him before he passed away. We miss both of them! - Posted by: Carl and Edie Simonson (friend) on: Apr 09, 2019

A very hard working lady who set a good example as to what a volunteer is! She served us many a good meal while our Rotary Club met at the Legion. Her lunches for Seniors, etc. could not be beat. She set a good example for us while I belonged to the Women's Auxillary. May she rest in Peace Heather, Mark and family! - Posted by: Lorraine & Jim Forestell (Members of the Charleswood Rotary Club) on: Apr 06, 2019
