JOSEPH (JOE) DAWSON MYLES
August 13, 1932 - April 2, 2019
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of more than 60 years, Patricia ("Patty-Mae"); his children, Joe and Mary Lou, and his grandchildren, Evan and Elyse, as well as his extended family and many friends, old and new.
He was born at home in Winnipeg to Dawson and Mary Myles, and is predeceased by his sister Edith.
He lived in Winnipeg all his life. He attended the University of Manitoba to become a chartered accountant and spent most of his career working for the federal government. He enjoyed managing a team, cooking steaks for the group on work road trips and was the "slugger" who could be counted on for home runs on the staff baseball team. He had a beautiful voice for which he won awards. He sang in church choirs from the age of five years and performed in musicals throughout high school and university. Even at Riverview, he graced the halls with songs for the staff and other residents. He had a wonderful sense of humour that he shared with family and friends. He was a born entertainer. His Donald Duck voice brought a smile to countless children. He brought life to every gathering. Even within the last year while at Riverview he performed in a starring role as the villain in a movie put together with the residents on 3 West.
He was an exceptionally talented cook. He was at his happiest when watching others enjoy a meal he had prepared. He did not let Winnipeg winters stop him from barbecuing year round. He prepared incredible feasts for the legendary Christmas Eve parties he and Pat hosted for their children and friends when they were teenagers and young adults.
He was a wonderful loving father and grandfather. His generosity of spirit was immense. His smile was mischievous and contagious.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of 3 West at Riverview, who provided wonderful care, allowing him to embrace his time with them with enthusiasm. We think that he would want to leave us with his favourite words of wisdom, that he repeated whenever we had to part: "If you can't be good, be careful". We are so deeply grateful for his life and for the love we shared.
In accordance with Joe's wishes a private family prayer service has been held.
If friends so desire, a donation may be made in his memory to Riverview Health Centre Foundation, Winnipeg Humane Society or the charity of your choice.

My condolences to the family of this wonderful man. I knew Mr. Myles as a boy growing up and had the opportunity years ago to ride with him to Falcon Lake where he golfed with many others from the office during a "men's golf weekend". During that ride I had never heard music played loud by a parent as I did in his Buick le Sabre. So cool I thought. He remained interested in my sports and I enjoyed his advice and conversations on the front step. I was also heard of his bbq skills as he cooked those Porterhouse Steaks for the men as kids were not allowed there during those golf weekends, in the spring and one late fall. May you sing, golf and cook in heaven Mr. Myles. Thank you for your kindness. Jim Lambert - Posted by: Jim Lambert (Friend) on: Apr 14, 2019
