VICTORIA SAWATZKY

On April 12, 2019, at age 51, Vicky died at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
She was born near Paratodo in the Paraguayan Chaco. Vicky travelled life's path graciously, even when posterior cortical atrophy and breast cancer ultimately shortened that path. Vicky loved to connect with and care for others, whether it was her family and friends or through her career as a health care aide.
Vicky is survived by spouse Robert Henry; children, Dorothea (Jonathan), Christofer (Melissa), Christina (Ian) and stepson Tristan; beloved grandchildren, Lucas, Ronan, and Grace; four siblings and their families; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral will take place on Saturday, April 20 at 10:30 a.m., at Fort Garry Mennonite Fellowship, 150 Bayridge Ave., Winnipeg. MB. Please wear fun colours. Reception to follow.
Special thanks to the WRHA Palliative Care staff, who eased the last leg of Vicky's journey with their compassion.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • My sincere (if belated) condolences on your loss. I pray that memories of happier times will see you through your time of grief! "God gave us memory so we might enjoy roses in winter." I am a respected researcher of Mennonite genealogy, and would like to connect your loved one to her/your family and ancestry, which I am unable to do given the information in her obituary. My on-line project contains over 500,000 individuals, including more than 3,000 Sawatzkys, but no information about Vicky or her family. Please contact me at an appropriate time if you are willing to share/exchange details (particularly your Vicky's maiden name and family information). Thank you. All information about living individuals is suppressed to protect your/their privacy. - Posted by: Bob Strong (Unknown) on: Sep 06, 2019

  • Rob, I am so sorry to hear of Vicki's passing. I didn't know her well but she was always a shining light at the motorcycle events. She was easy to talk to and I enjoyed her stories. She was gentle and kind and was not a quitter. Unfortunately I'm a bit under the weather myself and won't be able to attend the memorial. You and Vicki are in my thoughts. • Vicky was my friend for only a short time, but we both felt like we had known each other for many years. We liked to say that we were “ kindred spirits”. I’ve never met anyone quite like her. She had such a quiet, gentle way about her—a giving spirit. But underneath that, there was a strong will and determination to live the best life that she could with the time she had left. We had pyjama parties, tea parties, and lunches that doubled as art sessions. I must say, that there were a lot of laughs and a lot of eating! I will miss my friend, but I know in my heart, that Vicky has approached this new “chapter of her spirit” with grace and dignity. • Hallo Family of Victoria! We really had a lot of memories where the the children were still younger. I was gonna call her and see how her cancer was or if she was free from cancer. Than I heard this. I am happy she doesn’t have to suffer anymore. We really wish you Gods comfort and strength. - Posted by: Ed and Anna Thiessen (Onkel ) on: Apr 14, 2019
