VERONICA SOSNOWSKI
Left to mourn her loss are her son Randy, daughter-in-law Susan, and grandchildren, Brandon, Larissa, Carina and Alycia. Veronica was predeceased by her husband Henry and her parents, Rozalia and Albert.
Veronica was born in Winnipeg on January 25, 1921 and grew up in the North End. As a young woman she first volunteered and then worked at Misericordia Hospital, followed by many years at Hudson's Bay Company (downtown) where she had the pleasure of meeting many other independent young women, many of whom became lifelong friends.
She married Henry on July 1, 1961 and jokingly maintained that the real reason for the holiday was not the birth of a nation but was, in fact, a good opportunity for the entire country to celebrate their marriage. Veronica re-entered the workforce by working part time at Sears Garden City, most notably in the candy department where she would give out endless samples of candy and chocolates to the children she recognized from the neighbourhood, especially those who were classmates of her son. She still receives thank you cards every year from all the dentists in the neighbourhood.
Veronica was a doting grandmother who simply adored her grandchildren from the moment they came into the world. Her love and generosity will always be remembered and appreciated, as will the endless supply of riddles she brought for her grandchildren on all her visits. She had a wonderful sense of humour and would often erupt in peals of laughter before delivering the punchline. Armed with an infectious laugh, it wasn't long before everyone was laughing along with her...who needs a punchline anyway.
Veronica was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who was dedicated not only to her family, but to her faith as well. Veronica and Henry were parishioners at St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Church ever since they married there in 1961. After Henry passed away in 1996, Veronica got in the habit of taking the bus to church on Sundays and, by the Grace of God, was able to continue taking the bus to church well into her late 80s. When mobility became more of an issue and going to church became increasingly difficult, she could be found at home, praying the Rosary on a regular basis.
And now, her adventure is over.
A special and heartfelt THANK YOU to all the staff at Seven Oaks General Hospital 3rd Floor Unit 6, 4th Floor Unit 7 and at Misericordia Health Centre, 2nd Floor (Cornish 2) for the kindness and compassion you showed our mother and grandma during her stay with you.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Church, 365 Burrows Avenue with Rev. Tadeusz Czelen. Interment to follow at St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Cemetery, 400 McIvor Avenue.
