Ron was born in Kingston, Ontario on February 4, 1932. He met and married Val in 1956 in Winnipeg where they lived while raising their children. In 1985 they moved to Kenora to be closer to the family cottage on Coney Island. They settled first in Keewatin before moving to Southward Villa in Kenora in 1996.
Ron is most well-known for his volunteer community service. He served as a Councillor for the Town of Keewatin prior to its merger with Kenora. He has been an active member of the Elks and Lions organizations. He was a Lay Reader at St. Alban's Church for many years. Other organizations he supported include Royal Canadian Legion, Toastmasters, Club Day Away, Meals on Wheels, and New Horizons Seniors Centre. Each of his volunteer activities was undertaken with dedication, energy, vision, and leadership. He was an inspiration to his family and many in the community.
Ron was involved in a leadership role in the construction and operation of Southward Villa seniors' life-lease complex. His ongoing presence as Board Chairman has provided guidance since it opened.
Ron's family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital and Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for their excellent care and compassion over the past few months.
A memorial service will be held at St. Alban's Church in Kenora at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2019. A reception will follow in the cathedral hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Horizons Seniors Centre, St. Alban's Church or Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Dear Mrs. Brown, Donna, Brian and Kelly, and family, I am so sorry to learn that Mr. Brown is no longer with us. I have many happy memories of being a guest both at your Winnipeg home and the lovely cottages on Coney Island - Mr. Brown was always very kind, and always demonstrated terrific expertise across a range of activities: a model for us all, I think. My own dear father passed away in early March this year, and we'll be gathering in London Ont in mid-June to remember him. My thoughts are with you all. Sincerely, Ian - Posted by: Ian Chunn (Winnipeg neighbour, friend of the family) on: May 31, 2019

  • Val and family, my deepest sympathies on the passing of Ron. My first experience with Ron was a naive teen learning to speed skate at River Heights Community Centre. Later on I reconnected with Val and Ron through Toastmasters. You could count on Ron to tell a good story or two. You will be missed RIP Ron.
