ELSIE HOLLAND
(BORKOWKSI)

We the children of Elsie Holland (Borkowksi) are sad to announce Mom's passing on May 9, 2019 at the Grace Hospital, aged 93.
She was raised on the farm at Mink Creek, Manitoba, one of eight siblings, four girls, four boys. She became a rural school teacher Grades 1 to 12. Then later met and married our dad Fred, and became a great homemaker, cook and baker. There were always fresh baked goodies for us after school. Mom taught us to be kind, courteous and hardworking as she was. Mom, never complained. She loved Bingo, dancing, her beautiful flower gardens and trips to the U.S.A and Europe with Dad, friends and relatives. She loved watching the Blue Bombers and Jets on TV and when working for University of Manitoba, Food Services. She was thrilled when she got to serve the Bombers when they practiced there. At her last seniors home on Hudson Street, she loved watching the birds, bunnies and even deer that made their way to her patio.
We will miss you Mom. Love your children, Ronald (Leigh), Shirley (Edward), Suzanne (Gary) and Francine (Cam) plus seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
As per her wishes, there will be no funeral. Her children will celebrate her life at a later date.

  • Mom, I’m going to miss those Sunday morning breakfasts with you in the morning. We never knew what to get, and we were getting tired of Egg McMuffins. I’m going to miss those phone calls from you asking if the Jets or Bombers were playing. Then always that back up call with you saying,”I forgot to ask what time and what channel.” I’m going to miss you saying, “Hi Sweetie,” whenever I came to see you. I will miss our talks about you telling me about your early life on the farm. I will miss your funny stories, like the one when dad was courting you and he showed you his bank account and it looked pretty good, until you found out it was actually his brothers bank account. I’ll miss your laughter. Most of all, I will miss you mom, I love you so much. Say hi to Dad for me me. Your loving son, Ron - Posted by: Ron Hoolland (Son) on: May 18, 2019

  • I am so sad and sorry to hear of Elsie’s passing. We lovingly called her the “President & CEO of ‘Cartertown’” as she introduced my husband and I to each other back in 2002 - she lived in the house between us on Carter Avenue. We moved in 2007 but have always had her in our hearts. Very fond memories of her, she kept such a lovely home and worked hard at her beautiful garden daily, even at her older age. We all (my husband Hank, and including our daughter, who we named Carter) send our most sincere condolences, love and hugs to all of her children who we had the privilege of knowing those years. We ran into her here and there and she was always happy to greet us with a hug. Rest peacefully Elsie. Hugs to all of you, her children, and family. - Posted by: Karen Wesa (Former neighbour) on: May 18, 2019
